Getting lazy.

2nd set of RAM arrived. Put it in the PC.
Wouldn't boot at XMP (DDR4-4000). Tried lowering clocks to 3800.
It works!
Passed Memtest86 and Test Mem 5 Absolute.

Normally this is where I'd turn it back up to 4000 and fiddle with VCCSA, VDDQ and VDIMM, but I just called it a day.

Maybe if holy week ends up boring...

When I rejoined the company in January 2021, there were 12 of us at our store location. As of today there's just 4 of us left. 2 openers and 2 closers. AND we have 3 managers. What in the world is going on with my company.
iPhone 12 Pro Max 256 GB Pacific Blue
Samsung S22+
Samsung Z Fold 3 for work
Lenovo Legion 5 Pro RTX 3070
Macbook Air 13 thin, light and unapologetically dated

My son brought my 1year+2months old Samsung 55" Q60A QLED TV for servicing at the designated Samsung center. Yes, it's just past the warranty period and the display was already shaking up and down like those old-fashioned CRT TVs with vertical sync problems. According to my son, they think the mainboard needs to be replaced (no surprise) and that will cost 32K. And if they find other defects once they open the case, costs can go higher. I paid 42K last year for the TV and it does not make sense to pay close to that for a TV that can possibly conk out again after one year.

Adding insult to injury, they checked the powered-ON hours and it's over 6000hrs which make it over 15hrs/day of use. They suggested that I regularly unplug the TV set from the outlet "to allow it to rest". I thought that was ancient practice. Yes, I keep it ON at night to watch streaming video but that's also true with an older Samsung TV I had. They may have lost a Samsung TV customer permanently.  I could buy brand new TCL QLED TV 55" for less than the repair cost.

The TV is back unrepaired. I might try a different shop. I suspect it could be just an insect that crawled inside and puked at the electronics. In the meantime, I am using my laptop for viewing streaming video mostly YouTube. I found a way to cast YouTube videos from my tablet to the laptop. The trick is to make the laptop's browser appear as a TV set to YouTube. That's possible with the Chrome/Edge Custom UserAgent String extension. On selected websites, the browser emits a string that says it's Samsung TV set. When I visit Google's website, the Edge browser emits the string saying it's a Chrome browser to avoid that annoying pop-up. I found a site where User-Agent strings are listed.

Most repair shop nowadays just replace the main board as the fix, nobody do board repairs nowadays, my aircon had a problem a few months ago,and was diagnosed as board failure, they replaced the board and I kept the old one, after checking on the old board there's a bridge of corrosion I just cleaned and resoldered, replaced it back and it works now

are there any advantages of your old samsung to the newer cheaper TCL one?  are there significant advantages of getting a samsung instead of a cheaper one?  since durability is not one of the good things with samsung nowadays

^^^At the time I was making the purchase, I gave my son the final choice between the TCL and the Samsung. I was actually leaning towards the TCL because of the significantly lower price, better built-in sound, and because it was Google TV vs Tizen for Samsung. I thought the Samsung had a slightly better screen and it should last longer than the TCL.

When my married daughter moved to their new condo and asked for TV recommendations, I suggested the 55" TCL OLED I rejected. Her husband made the final decision and chose a newer TCL OLED (C725 I think) model.

I have so many other expenses these days. I am purposely delaying spending for the TV. Besides, I sleep better these days.

any update on the TCL?  so i guess the samsung does not last as long.  been reading a lot of negative feedback about samsung years before already.  it seems to be true that the failure rate of samsungs are quite high

^^^Buying a modern TV is like card game. You can be dealt a bad unit and this is does not correlate to the price you paid.

Here are the last 3 TV's I bought:

SONY 39" LCD (not LED backlight) TV - This developed a problem only about 1 month after purchase. I had it serviced under warranty. They simply reflashed the firmware and it was again running. There was no evidence they opened the unit. This TV lasted about 5 years before it needed a mainboard replacement. I brought it to Love Electronics where it sat for over 1 month until Love can find a replacement board. I had already bought my 2nd TV set when they called to say they found a replacement board and that it would cost a little over 5000 to replace. That was about what I told them I was willing to pay for any repair. I gave the repaired Sony to my daughter. TV was still working to date.

Samsung 40" LEDTV. This unit was an entry level unit and cost only 25K. It had no problems except it developed a really bad dirty screen effect after 5 years. That is why I decided to upgrade to Samsung again.

Samsung 55" QLED - lasted just 1 year and 2 months then developed the shaky screen problem.

I will be betting on TCL this time.

seems to be that way.  but oddly, samsungs have very high failure rates based on what i read online.  and the warranty claiming is also a problem.  i think the other cheaper brands could develop problems early on but their warranty replacements could be good and then after being replaced, the TV would last more than 5 years.  could also be because people who buy the cheaper TVs do not mind it breaking down early since they know they got it cheap

Our Coocaa( skyworth) is almost 4 years, the Chiq (changhong) is almost 2yrs & the Devant almost 6years

thats what i was wondering.  the cheaper brands seem to have better durability than the samsungs.  devant is actually one of the better known brands for durability.  ive known the brand for a long time already.  but coocaa and chiq are fairly new to me and it seems they have lower failure rates than the samsungs

Western media's writing quality has substantially plunged over the last few years. It started with comics, then made its way to books, TV series,  movies and even Magic: the Gathering short stories, which, while not really top quality were at least exciting in the past. The March of the Machine story was such a let down, worse than War of the Spark.
