UPS Problem T__T

i have a giant LG600 600VA UPS that's a good few years old already and lately, it doesn't seem to be performing its job.  given that it's stormy weather today, power is sometimes on and off.  when the lights go out, my computer dies too even if it's plugged into the UPS.  so i tried the UPS on a small desk lamp to see if it works and it seems to be able to handle the lamp just fine (plug the lamp into the UPS, then unplug the UPS to see if it has power and the lamp stays on even if it's been unplugged).  so i put the pc (unplugged the monitor from the UPS) back on the UPS just to see if it's gonna work already.  brown out and same thing... PC dies down again (i tried switching plugs already).  so is it time to get a new one?  thanks!

The battery must be weak already and needs to be replaced. It might be a good idea to have the internal switching circuitry of the UPS checked as well.

My 4 year old APC Back-UPS 650 CS had the same symptoms and I had to have the battery and a certain relay part replaced.

Battery na yan, current is not high enough to sustain the needs of the PC but it can for a simple bulb

The battery part is pretty easy (just buy a new battery).
But how does one check the "internal switching circuitry" of the UPS?

My sister brought their  Giant UPS 500VA for me to check. I notice its battery is weak so I replaced the battery with new ones. But then the new battery also don't last long even at very low loads (testing my PC with my APC 500VA UPS, my PC lasts nearly 10 minutes, but with the Giant UPS 500VA that I replaced with new batteries, it lasts only 3-4 minutes..)

Perhaps your suggestion is right, this Giant UPS may have some problem -- how do I check it? (sayang, bumili na ako ng UPS battery for this Giant UPS...)

Thanks for the tips. Any suggestions as to where I can buy batteries? A bnew ups of the same kind goes for 1.6k at villman

I brought my UPS to the APC Service center. They supplied and replaced the battery. I had to return the unit to them because it was still not working right. The technician then checked the circuit and found out that a relay and some small chip was busted which was the reason why the new battery was not charging properly.

If a brand new unit costs only 1.6k then you might as well get a new one and save yourself the hassle. It cost me around the same amount just to have my APC CS 650 up and running again.

alright.  i might just do that.  i'll prolly donate this UPS to be used with the router or modem.  should be able to handle it.  thanks so much!

I usually have my APC UPS battery replaced by their authorized service center.  Kasama na dun yung check up.  They do pick and delivery for a fee (150 pesos ata).  Call them and ask for a quote kung magkano battery for your specific UPS.  Kasama na dun ang installation and sila na din bahala sa proper disposal ng battery mo.  I also usually pay by check.

arrgh... sorry, I didn't ready thoroughly.  ClixLogic only deals with APC UPS'.  They don't service other brands.

Can also recommend another TPC guy who does the above, have bought from him twice. TPC handle symmatrix. He also does check your UPS when you buy battery. (unfortunately, the Giant UPS that I mentioned replacing new batteries - I didn't buy battery from him, thus hadn't have someone check out the UPS; but I just bought new batteries from battery shop in Raon).

On a sidenote, can anyone here recommend the Apollo Blast brand?  I'm looking at getting the 1000va one.  I'm upgrading to an i3-2100, 5850, about 3 drives and an LCD.  I have my 650va Powercomm which has been fine for over 2 years now but I'd like to give it more room.

My wife's PC has an almost 3-year old APC 650kVA Back-UPS that's either broken or needs a battery replacement (not surprised since it's old). When plugged in, it's relays just click incessantly. When I power it on, it beeps on and on accompanied by the relay clicks.

Is it still worth it to replace the battery or to have it repaired? Is it still worth it having a UPS?

Hindi naman kasi napakinabangan for the last 3 years other than as a glorified extension cord.

Branded naman ang PSUs ng desktop PCs namin and my own desktops have survived without any AVR or UPS at all.
Do you still use UPSes at home?

if di naman madalas ang mga brownouts dyan sa inyo at pwede namang iset ang auto-save sa mga work files, i think dina need ang UPS unless data sensitive talaga ang work. added electricity load lang sya.

yung isang pc ko halos 24-7 direct AC power no problem going 12years na. tinapon kona yung UPS na may 4 na battery na super bigat!
