PLDTHome messaged me thru Viber last Saturday of an upgrade offer from plan 2399 to 2599 (additional P200/month). I was already getting 150mbps/300mbps down/up speed. Not that I needed more but I went with the upgrade anyway by simply replying YES to the offer.

Aside from billing I never get anything from PLDT Home though. Can't remember if I unsubbed from their mailing list but maybe I did.

A friend's plan 2965:

It's an old discontinued plan but he never bothered to change it. PLDT is pro-rating his speed to around 600Mbps.

have you checked your spam folder? hahaha! they also sometimes send things thru viber if they know your mobile number

this is my speedtest result. i tried testing using other websites but its only speedtest.net which gives this full speed. some other sites only show 100mbps or even less.

another website which shows the full speed is fast.com. other sites show way slower speed. i enabled hardware offloading in openwrt. plan 2899. my speed is set at 500mbps when i called pldt

At higher speeds these tests become more and more inaccurate because oftentimes you're limited by the server the speedtest is running on, or maybe even the peering agreement across ISPs.

IMO best way to validate is with a well seeded torrent with lots of peers. It's a real-world use case and with a lot of connections you're more likely to be able to max out your speed. Might need to mess with the torrent client a bit though to increase the number of simultaneous connections/peers.

one thing i noticed is that i can get full speed download on steam. i recently downloaded a game there and i the download speed was around 80MB/s

Ayun, Steam is a good metric coz they have very robust download servers. 80MB/s is about 640Mbps.

But "feels good man" when your internet connection speed is so fast the you can't get a reliable speedtest anymore coz you're faster than the server doing the speedtest.

yeah. faster than the websites na ang speed natin minsan. its also annoying sometimes when you cannot download a 100mb file that fast because the website is slow. plus, the bottleneck that is the old mechanical hdd. hahaha! the download speed from steam is downloaded to my nvme m.2. so i think thats also the reason i can get full speed. some torrents i download are saved in my old bigger mechanical drive

I've had this Globe ONU AN5506-04-FA for several years now. I was able to clone my PLDT ONU, also AN5506-04-FA, physical SN to the Gobe modem. However, it doesn't seem to work with PLDT and obtain an internet connection.

I flashed it with firmware version RP2647 from this site. http://191.5.112.17:8480/files/Firmware/ONU-FiberHome/04-FA/

And now it can connect to PLDT's network, and I have another backup ONU. The beauty is I have admin access and hopefully PLDT doesn't or can't update the firmware to lose the admin access like the original modem.

Upgrading is quite easy. I copied the BIN file to a USB drive formatted to FAT32. Removed any volume name in the drive. I renamed the BIN file to "AN5506_04F1A.bin" as UBoot looks for this file on power up and sees it as a recovery firmware. The firmware image must match the ONU hardware version "WKE2.134.285F1A" for it to be accepted and permanently flashed. Wait for all the LEDs to light up before removing.

If you're using Google DNS (8.8.8.8) switching to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) seems to help.
