those capped plans doesn't make sense (IMHO), e.g. 1899@50Mbps-300GB, if I download 300GB on a 50Mbps line, it would only take 14hrs to reach your cap

I was already getting 50mbps for just 1899/month for several years.

is this the capped plan? unli-fibr 1899 started out as 20Mbps (as I stated above)

if you are on capped plan, then maybe there's also a capped 2399 for 100Mbps as you mentioned.

No it's an UNLI plan. I applied through the lineman installing fiber in our street. He said that they could only accept UNLI plans and the lowest was the 1899 plan. OK, I remember it started as 30mbps plan 1899 but PLDT upgraded the speed to 50bmps. This was is the new advertised speed not promo.

Then they gave a temporary speedboost to 100mbps for my plan 1899. After the speedboost ended and the speed went back down to 50mbps, I applied online to upgrade the speed back to 100mbps for 500php more (1899+500=2399). I remember an agent calling me to confirm the upgrade. In hindsight I should have kept a screenshot of the PLDT webpage for the upgrade. It was at the time when Duterte was pushing for a 3rd Telco. Maybe they assess that this 3rd Telco does not pose threat anymore and it's time to raise prices.

^^^I started back reading this thread. Maybe I'm wrong. 2399 could be just 50mbps only. It's been a year and it feels like 100mbps is ordinary for the 2399 I'm paying even if I am actually getting 150mbps speed.

In hindsight I should have kept a screenshot of the PLDT webpage for the upgrade.

Wayback machine has snapshots of the PLDT website (my screenshot was 2017), unless they only put it up for less than 1 week, Wayback machine will surely have an archive of it.

this speedboost that PLDT gives messes up with the subscribers expectation -- which will have a positive effect on their side, as people who are already accustomed to a higher speed will just upgrade after the speedboost is over.

50Mbps for 1899 was the introductory promo speed, not the advertised speed. You got it for a month (or two maybe) after getting connected, afterwards it slowed down to 20Mbps. This was before the tier was upgraded to 30-35Mbps.

Anyways it looks like they forgot to turn off the speedboost promo. I got a text saying the promo was expired and that we were reverting to regular speeds, but we're still getting this:

Speed increased even more. Became 300/600Mbps.

Maybe it's a temporary fluke but my router obtained a public IP address 112.204.xxx.xxx/19. It's a VDSL plan 1899 in our condo.

Surprisingly, it's getting 50mbs down/20mbps upload from the start of this June. It was only getting the normal 30mbps speed previously.

It's also getting a public IPv6 address but for a long time now.

I got to access a random PLDT modem today -- the DNS of my server didn't update, and it still have the old IP -- unfortunately, another subscriber snagged that IP, and when I tried to access my server, it resolved to that said IP

the worse part -- it still has 1234 default password -- I got in, and got the phone number (on the voip setting), it was on route-mode with a public IP - I'm not sure if this was PLDT's default config or the user changed the setting (it was on vlan1039)

so... yeah, try to secure your modem, check if your external IP had access to the modem

The VDSL modem is in bridged mode. Therefore it's invisible to outside access. It's actually one that was purchased from AliExpress because I couldn't gain admin access to the stock modem from PLDT to switch it to bridged mode. I eventually found the password and procedure for admin access for the PLDT modem. But it's sitting in reserve should the replacement modem conk out.

BTW, I rebooted the router this morning. The latest OpenWRT 19.07.7 release seems to have issues with its DHCP server. LAN clients sometimes can't obtain an IP address. Anyway after reboot, I checked what IP address it would be getting. Surprise, it got the same public IP address as yesterday's.

Inggit ako sa ping niyo. Sarap pang FPS; walang excuses, este lag! Which leads to my conundrum. Should I switch to wired fibr or stick with my globe wireless (yung may antenna)? I'm not sure if may "slot" pa sa area ko pero hindi naman heavily populated kame dito *cross fingers*.  Ah teka, hindi "stirr" yang below 5ms ping?

Actual ping depends on the server you're connecting to.

5ms is only going to to PLDT's speedtest server.

On Diablo 3 connecting to what I assume is US West my ping is still in the 3 digits.

^Thanks for the input. The thing is, at least in my area, what i currently got is so reliable i am hesitant to let it go and venture to an unknown product.

My prediction (i am not well versed in IT so please correct me here) is that in 2-3 years, 5g will be commonplace and i'll enjoy better latency. I can wait and make do with what i got now.

My internet history as best as i remember follows: 2003-2005 dial-up. 2005-2008 digitel (Hello Tina Yuzuki lol!) Dsl 512kbps. 2008-2017 smartbro motorola canopy 999. 2017 to present globe at home wireless.

I think wired will always give the most bang for the buck. But it wont be that much significant for this torrent, fps guy. I'm betting that signal from towers are more fudge factor free than cables (dueto theft, 'repairs' by pldt contractors that goes awry, stuff like that.) What do you think gents?

the problem with 5G is that the higher frequency has little penetrating power and it low area coverage, to have a full bandwidth, you need to be within less than 500meters line-of-site of the tower  even trees degrade the signal (but actual tests for *full* bandwidth, you need to be less than 200meters, and even flying birds degrade signal). they would need to put 5 towers per KM to give full coverage (at least 2 per KM for just /coverage/)

My next door neighbor's high closed van stuck my fiber line and that resulted in LOS. They're lucky their fiber line did not get cut as it shares the same cable bundle. They agreed to temporarily share their internet while I am waiting for service. I hope the line will be restored to the same signal quality as before. It's the first time this has happened in the more than 5 years I have been a fiber subscriber.

Several  months back their truck struck the low strung Meralco service entrance line and it resulted in power cut.

I'll be moving to a different condo next month which thankfully is PLDT fiber ready.

I just signed up for the 2699 plan. Going from Plan 1899 30Mbps VDSL2 to 300Mbps fiber optic is going to be awesome!
