https://www.vice.com/en/article/xgdnnk/how-the-offsprings-lead-singer-went-from-punk-to-phd?fbclid=IwAR08cPDpw-gYxcr7aP-hpNzJuLltFbvO_LQp0Jy4-3GfSktGjb67qDx-fSM

Growing up in the ’90s, I knew a bit about The Offspring. They formed in Orange County in 1984 and toiled for a decade in the SoCal punk scene before blowing up with their 1994 LP, Smash, released on Epitaph Records. Led by the singles “Come Out and Play” and “Self Esteem,” Smash sold more than 11 million copies, making it the all-time best selling record released by an independent label. Five of The Offspring’s albums have attained platinum status, and their singles still play in heavy rotation on modern rock radio.

As soon as I got off the road, I did some Googling. Sure enough, Holland earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology in 2017 from the University of Southern California. This brought up another peculiar fact: Holland is one of several punk singers who came up in the 1980s SoCal hardcore scene who have a Ph.D. What was in the beer at those ’80s hardcore shows that made so many punks pursue advanced degrees? I decided to find out and check in with Holland as he prepared for his big speech.

^Reminds me of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. Dude's a commercial pilot for a time. From the few clips I've seen, a fairly good presenter as well.

=====
There is no shame in being smart. Or rather, peeps who try (not necessarily triumph) to convert some of one's youthful potential to accomplishments. Lately, if i read to much of the facebook feed, i get the feeling that those who are educationally ahead of the median gets lumped with other boogeymans, the "elite", or whoever it is to blame why they can't get ahead in life.
Will never, ever buy a SONY ever again.

Lots of smart shaming going on, gotten even more so lately. Before it was just the half-joke "ikaw na ang matalino". Now its "feeling sikat/pasikat", "kulang sa pansin" by just posting a grad pic.

first image was a deep field.... take note that hubble took several years and a contact lens before they could take that famous hubble deep field image.... just imagine what pictures JWST will produce in the future.

Yeah! An administrator for JWST guested on NDT's podcast and she was saying that JWST was able to make that deep field image in a fraction of the time it took Hubble to image the same area, and with a much higher resolution to boot.

https://gizmodo.com/canon-dslr-replica-transformers-optimus-prime-reflector-1849394318

As longtime camera makers like Nikon and Canon struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing market filled with competition like smartphones, there’s at least one way to boost the sales of dedicated cameras: partner with Takara Tomy and make them transform into fan-favorite Transformers like Optimus Prime.

Wow Optimus Prime's sporting a L lens

Waiting for the Nikon variant, it should go well with my AF-S 24-70 2.8 coffee mug  :lol:
