Winter conditions? Thats normal during the season.

At least one of those who claimed to have had the problem said he lives in the desert region.

I've been following the forum discussion over at Audio Science Review. The problem might be a design flaw. ESD shouldn't end up damaging headphones plugged into the amp.The manufacturer forum rep mentioned that ESD testing wasn't done during product development and some components were changed with serial number 2012xxxxxx and up to isolate the headphones from "ESD-induced" amp failures. They're in the process of acquiring ESD testing equipment to investigate the issue further.

Static electricity is common when humidity is low (winter conditions and dry environments like deserts). A few years ago during a particularly cold winter day I experienced electric arcing from my finger to a door knob. The distance was 5 inches.

Topping has acknowledged the L30 problem and has this to say:

I discussed this with the dealer via Shopee chat. They coordinated with the manufacturer regarding the recall so they will send me a new revision unit which incorporates the fixes to address the headphone damaging issue. They said I don't have to send back the old unit but I have to show proof that I "destroyed" it. I'll see how this goes but it should give me some piece of mind with the product.

Just got the Sound Blaster X3 in the mail today.

 First impressions of the X3:

  • Overall sound quality is decent and the headphone amp stage at high gain setting is able to drive the HD 600 and HD 650 competently. Nothing remarkable to report here.
  • For music, I was expecting the SXFI room/speaker simulation feature for headphones to be just a gimmick that I'll probably leave disabled but I went ahead  and tried it anyway so I followed the procedure in setting it up with headmapping using the SXFI app then loading the profile into the X3. I'm listening to some tunes right now with this stupid grin on my face. It's like the AirPods spatial audio effect with Dolby Atmos in Apple Music but more fun. Yes, it sounds processed but I find it enjoyable since it feels like I'm in a club or bar listening to a live band performance or a DJ on the decks but with passable sound quality. Itís not the sort of thing that I would use for music all the time but I'll probably switch it on whenever I feel like it.
  • For gaming, I find that the SXFI room/speaker simulation effect sounds way too artificial in a metallic way so Iíll leave SXFI switched off in games.
  • The SBX virtual headphone surround positional audio isn't as accurate as the good in-engine implementations of headphone virtual surround that can be enabled in the audio settings of games like BFV, Overwatch, etc., so Iíll stick to using those.
update:
  • Direct mode SQ is pretty good. I have to set the headphone gain to "normal" though because at "high" it starts to clip. It's a non-issue for me because normal gain in Direct mode gets plenty loud already.

Anyone reading Crinacle? Interesting review of the Drop HD8xx, which seems to be significantly worse than the actual HD800: https://crinacle.com/2021/09/03/drop-sennheiser-hd8xx-review-illogical-conclusion/

Let me tell you, the worst- the worst earbud i've ever come across is a sennheiser. cx 300s. Too sibilant. It hurts. Chalkboard, Kssk ksssk kssskkk. Shrieky piece of shit. Since i bought it in JB music, i don't think i came across a fake one. I guess it was meant for dulled ears. (To think i loved the senn px100s before that i bought it twice.)

I've tried other earbuds from logitech, Sony, samsung/akg, and they are all OK.

On a whim, i bought an audio technica headphone. Oh lord, goodness! Thank you!

I think sennheiser is going through a bad patch right now. Like a carmaker going through a bad design language phase. Not now =/.
Will never, ever buy a SONY ever again.

^ you can give those china brands a shot, they have good reviews for the price

Lazada
nicehck DB3
KZ EDX
KZ ZSN Pro
X2 PRO
EX6

I burn-in my phones almost 24hours @ MAX Vol & I've noticed some changes, one of them was really bassy & lacks high but after the burn-in it had a change of tone. BUT those that are really kaching-kaching in the first place is really hard to tame, only by the audio tone changes of the player can you do the changes
