also installed it to 3PC already... and not one had a problem, but one thing I noticed, is that on the 3rd PC, the 'keep all files' option is not checked by default, maybe people just do the 'next, next, next' and didn't notice it, so it deleted all files

the bug is that it only deletes some files, not all.

And these are apparently "random files"... so far, no one has found any commonality with the deleted files.

So the bug was reported by insiders during testing, but somehow still made it to release:

i wonder if they could really do that.  especially if new files have already been used on that "deleted" space

^ Makes me think the missing files might have something to do with that stupid OneDrive integration. I'm guessing some people unknowingly got their user folders synced to OneDrive and the offline copies deleted.

Self serving talaga yung proposed charter ni speaker gma.  >:( Ang kapal.
Sana talaga may death penalty para sa mga crooked politicians. As in public execution. Sila ang nagpapahirap at pumapatay sa bansa natin.

1809 Folder deletion bug fixed and explanation of the problem given:

https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/10/09/updated-version-of-windows-10-october-2018-update-released-to-windows-insiders/

Ars gives their report and take of the situation:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/10/microsoft-fixes-october-update-file-deleting-bug-resumes-insider-testing/

Quote
Redirecting one or more Known Folders does not, however, remove the original folder. Moreover, if there are still files in the original folder, redirecting doesn't move those files to the new location. Using KFR can thus result in your files being split between two locations; the original folder, and the new redirected folder.

The October 2018 Update tried to tidy up this situation. When KFR is being used, the October 2018 Update will delete the original, default Known Folder locations. Microsoft imagined that this would simply remove some empty, redundant directories from your user profile. No need to have a Documents directory in your profile if you're using a redirected location, after all. The problem is, it neither checked to see if those directories were empty first, nor copied any files to the new, redirected location. It just wiped out the old directory, along with anything stored within it. Hence the data loss.

Adding insult to injury, there are ways in which Windows users could have enabled KFR without really knowing that they did so or meaning to do so. The OneDrive client, for example, can set up KFR for the Documents and Pictures folders, if you choose to enable automatic saving of documents and pictures to OneDrive. The current OneDrive client will set up KFR and then move any files from their original location to the new OneDrive location. Older versions of the OneDrive client, however, would set up KFR but leave existing files in the old location. The October 2018 Update would then destroy those files.

Equally important is the improvement of their feedback hub to indicate severity of a bug. The problem was reported numerous times, but threads for those reports didn't receive many upvotes and thus were ignored.

IMO forums react badly to people reporting this sort of problem, oftentimes ending up with victim-blaming and majority of posters going "no it doesn't affect me", downplaying or even outright disregarding the severity of the problem because it didn't happen to affect them. A low-severity bug that affects a lot of people is more likely to get attention than a very serious bug that only affects a handful of users.

Mozilla is going to remove RSS live bookmarks this December with version 64. Total bummer. I hope the Add-on versions offer exactly the same functionality.
