« on: July 24, 2020, 11:40:44 AM »
OK lang ba icheap out ko muna yung PSU ko at gamitin ko muna yung generic PSU ko from my other CPU to my newly build PC. wala ng budget for 80+ bronze PSU eh.

for more explanation as to why not. you risk frying your board/processor/graphics/storage with a bad PSU, so it's the opposite of protecting your investment, buying a cheap PSU is like endangering your whole PC.

a big NO.

pc components nowadays are more susceptible to power failures when there's not enough power delivery from psu.  the circuitry of these boards were more complicated so,  that's why more and more power supply manufacturers are making 80PLUS gold certified psu just to make sure they were sufficient enough to feed these power-hungry components all the time.

Never cheap out on a PSU. If you buy a quality one, kahit bronze rating lang, it can last you years and even multiple builds. I have a PSU thats on its 3rd build amd another one that powered 4.

I still have a HEC 550W and an Antec 450W from 2008. I understand the components, particularly the electrolytic caps, degrade over time. So, can I still use these safely if I were to get a Ryzen 5 rig? The HEC is in storage since Feb but I've had no issues with it. I just swapped it out for the 450-W spare coz I thought my rig's BSODs were PSU-related.

I plan on buying a casing with its own PSU just to avail of the free assembly service from the store then swap it out at home.

^ My HEC Cougar 720w PSU has gone through a lot of builds; Core2Duo, Core2Quad, i5 2nd Gen, i7 4thGen, i7 5th Gen, Ryzen 7 1700 and now Ryzen 7 3700X. No plans of changing it yet but I'm planning of getting a fully modular PSU with flat cables when I do.

My 5V & 12V drops a teeny bit on average but stable overall.

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence. I'll give my HEC a try when I get a new rig.

So may other option ka pa pala. If you have an old yet working branded PSU, you could use that instead of the generic one. Or there's always someone in TPC selling their old branded PSUs. You may get a good deal.

My HEC 450W PSU died and took out the connected nForce motherboard and radeon 9700 pro, this was back during Athlon XP times. Never used that brand after that. Now using a mix of Silverstone/Seasonic modular PSUs.

I'd check https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psucultists-psu-tier-list/ while checking TPC for deals.

The OEM of theDUD3's 720W HEC may be different from your 550W HEC, so his good experience may not apply to your PSU.

Same here. My 350W HEC PSU back in the day failed and took the motherboard with it. I never bought that brand again.

That said, I've had a Corsair and a couple of Seasonics fail on me too. Good thing though is that no other components were damaged and the latter two brand's warranties are very long and RMA's were easy.

There's been updates to the ATX voltage specs btw.  Case in point.  I've got a 1200W Gigabyte Odin PSU, that will not cold boot power on cleanly a Gigabyte Z77 board due to older ATX specs...had to buy a newer Coolermaster 850W just to always cold boot properly.  But it still works, I used to use it to do overnight leak testing..but both that one and the Coolermaster have been retired for a new Corsair RM1000x for my current rig for no real good reason other than I wanted a new PSU.

Is there a good PSU in lazada that is 80+ bronze with 2000 pesos max, I don't plan to use dedicated graphics card. I will use APU so a 350W will do.
