seems like only the top end processors will be available at launch, though.

i hope Ryzen competes well with Intel's processors.

awaiting (gaming) benchmarks...

well, the FX got bad reviews right off the bat when it came out, this one seems to promise the 'same' performance at half the price of competitor, they really don't hide the fact that they can't perform better, they are at par but cheaper. looks promising, especially that they are 16thread (8core) parts, my VMs will be happy to have 1-2cpu dedicated per VM.

Listen to / watch this first though:
https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Dissecting-AMD-Zen-Architecture-Interview-David-Kanter

Cuts right through the marketing fluff and goes into some very informed opinion of what AMD might have done with Ryzen. Really looking forward to their post-launch follow-up.

Might go back to AMD after 10+ years if this delivers.

if you're using aftermarket HSFs pray they get AM4 mounting kits for free/minimal cost. SDRAM prices are spiking right now as well.

Is AMD going to use solder for the RYZEN IHS?

IPC looks like it's going to be lower than Sky Lake and Kaby Lake but on par with Broadwell with moar cores/threads to boot. I just love how Ryzen's pricing is set to not only disrupt but also practically dismantle Intel's entire HEDT line of CPUs. A $250 6-core/12-thread zen CPU actually matching or beating Haswell-E/Broadwell-E $600-1000 CPUs. How cool is that! Can't wait for the 3rd party independent reviews for gaming performance.

Good thing I bought my 4790K 2nd hand. I might make the switch back to AMD this time. I just wish the X370 chipset is as fully featured as the Z270.

^ If that's from the AMD event it turns out AMD nerfed the X99 systems by running them in dual channel mode (instead of quad channel), so they may well be even instead of Ryzen having a small lead over Broadwell-E (Bdw-E might even have a small lead over Ryzen).

I just thought it was kinda weird that Intel would lose the multithread tests despite winning the single thread ones.

Still, coming in at less than half the price makes it more than worthy. Build Ryzen or wait for price cuts from Intel.

Ooh. That's just shady marketing....or did they just want to do an apples to apples comparison?

Perhaps this might also be the reason:

Bring on the proper gaming benchies, not cherry picked internal tests and leaks. That's what I'm really interested in.

^ I guess marketing is just gonna be marketing. The two chips aren't apples to apples anyway, and a huge part of the reason Intel's X99 lineup is so expensive is because of the 40 PCIe lanes and quad channel memory, so it ought to be allowed to use those resources.

This is the newest 6900k review I could find, the rest are from 2016 so this is one should be running a version of Cinebench closest to what AMD used. In it the 6900k scores 148/1590 on Cinebench R15. That's much faster than the 1474 it ran in AMD's comparative testing, and is within the margin of error compared to the 1800X's score of 1601.

Rather, if AMD's 6900k which ran 162 in single thread were to scale as well as LegitReview's setup, then it should score 1740 in multithread mode.

Either way Intel is still overpriced, and Ryzen is still poised to bring exceptional value to the high-end desktop segment, but I might take a $700 6900k over a $500 1800X depending on how the system is meant to be used.

Wccftech is the #1 tabloid of the tech world. Their clickbait articles are hit and/or miss and the comments section is a cesspool of fanboyism.
