Netbook Slowdown - Solution?

I have an Aspire One D255 which i bought in SG few years back. It was good enough for word processing and the size is just perfect when it comes to portability. But, recently, its been a pain in the @ss to use it due to draggingly slow perfo. I know netbooks are not really known for speed but, nevertheless, it wasnt this slow back then. I've also done reformatting and reinstalling but it didnt work. Did check mem and hard drive for errors but they are all good. Its currently on Windows 7 starter as it was when bought new before. I was thinking of loading XP SPII perhaps it would help. Any thoughts?

Is the fan still working? The processor might be throttling because of heat. Monitor mo muna temps. Check also if all drivers are properly installed.

I have xp and 2gb on my 5yo wind-clone and it is still quite usable

Yeah, still working buddy. Will double check drivers as well. Is it enough to check this under "device manager"? If it is, it doesn't show any errors.

If the first suggestion doesn't work, will try XP. THough, I was, and stil am, wondering that when it was new, it was a-ok under Windows 7 starter and its stock 1GB ram.

Ok lang I think ang 1GB for browsing and office stuff. My wife's MSI Wind worked fine with 1GB and Windows 7 Ultimate.  It was when she started using it sa online job with multiple web browsers open that I decided to upgrade it to 2GB. 


(Eventually we had to replace it with a real laptop when the work got too heavy for a measly netbook.)

Is CPU usage always lingering at 100%?  If it is, check if DMA is enabled sa IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers under Device Manager.  DMA should be enabled.

for an unorthodox advice, try Windows 8.1, seems better with 1GB of ram than Win7

Ok lang I think ang 1GB for browsing and office stuff. My wife's MSI Wind worked fine with 1GB and Windows 7 Ultimate.  It was when she started using it sa online job with multiple web browsers open that I decided to upgrade it to 2GB.

My daughter has an old MSI u100 I bought back in Christmas of 2008 and it's slow when doing multiple tab browsing. It works but is slow.

im still using my MSI Wind 135, 1gig ram lang din pero ok pa nman pang office applications..
mabagal na talaga pag naka skype.. sasabayan pa ng t*rr*nt! wala lang akong mabilihan ng 1gig sodimm dito

Firefox alone is taking up 1.5GB of my RAM right now, and some people suggest the browser I'm using is pretty efficient already.

AFAIK that GMA graphics is also sharing your RAM, so there's even less than 1GB available to the system.

Yeah limitation kasi ng early Atom yung 1GB din.

For an even more unorthodox advice, install a light Linux-based distro, like Lubuntu/Xubuntu 14.04.

I'm experiencing some slow down on my MSI Wind netbook as well. 


Although in my case, I notice it happens several minutes before the Windows update icon pops up and until the update is finished.  Apparently, Windows update uses too much resources for the netbook to handle.



Perhaps that is also the problem with your Acer?

I bought a 2nd hand 1gig 667 last sunday (ala TPC site here, buti marunong mag english yung seller mas mura pa equivalent to 200 pesos lang)
and my MSI wind is more faster than before
dati madalas mag lag kapag naka skype video tapos mag oopen ng firefox ngayun mas smooth na
