Audio Quality Testing
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:47:59 PM »
Anandtech tests audio quality from some phones using some very sophisticated gear.

iPhone pretty much aces the test, Samsung's stuff does acceptably well. HTC is pretty good except for the horrible "BEATS" equalization.

...but the Nexus 5 and LG G2 get pwned big time!

Nexus 5 THD+N is over 13%! WTF???

Sine wave shows clipping on the left channel

compared to iPhone5 -120dB noise floor

Perfect Sine Wave Sweep

Lots more charts and stuff at TFA. Stepped frequency response, maximum levels, other models tested.

They should test the Galaxy S (GT-i9000) as it comes with a Wolfson DAC and lots of people say that it subjectively sounds great, including me.

It would also be interesting to see dedicated DAPs like the Sandisk Sansa Clip+ would fare against AIO smartphones since its also renowned for its SQ and affordable price.
