How do i make Windows7 block programs by default?

It's just something that wanted to carry over from the zone alarm firewall i've been using on winxp.

Whenever something new gets installed i want windows 7 to detect it and ask whether to allow or to block it. Or atleast, block them by default. Right now it instantly allows everything to go through.

I read it's supposed to ask me permission for this, but it's not happening on my pc.

One of the suggestions was to install this, but i'm not quite sure what it does or if i would really need it. http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/

Aw man. I just did a test by setting windows firewall to block Yahoo Messenger on my laptop, and it can still connect.

Can anybody suggest a third party firewall?

it should be blocked by default. at least it did on my win7 64bit install.

Windows 7 Firewall Control is a great tool, try it out. kakaasar lang yun audio notification niya heheheh
