Martial Law Babies, anybody remember The Metric Song?
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:16:18 PM »
I was in grade 6 when the Metric System was implemented back in 1979 or 1980.  I sang this song along with other students on stage. But I do not remember much of the lyrics anymore.

Sayang lang they stopped singing this in our schools.  This song has helped me a lot during my high school and college days.

All I can remember is:

Code: [Select]
Just multiply inches by two point five four  and then you'll get centimeters.

The feet multiplied by point three-o-five, will give you equivalent meters.

The gallons times three point seventy nine will give you equivalent liters.

baka naman puwede ninyo ako tulungan kumpletuhin ito.  I want to teach this song  to my children.   ^_^

it is easy to change from english to metric, the system is fine if you know it.

so let convert from english to metric, well do it and share it and show it.

Just multiply inches by two point fifty four  and then you'll get centimeters.

The feet multiplied by point three-o-five, will give you equivalent meters.

The gallons times three point seventy nine will give you equivalent liters.

subtract 32 from degrees farenheit, the result keep it in mind, when you multiply by five over nine, you get celcius this time.

the yards and the miles and the things that you passed use meter then go kilometer

the system of metric (2X) is better!

alamin kong mabuti, yan lang nakayanan ko.

update ko pag natandaan ko.

OT

grade 2 yata kinanta yon sa school

In the 1980's there was a song propagated by the Philippine government in mass media to help children memorize some of the more important conversions. Here's the lyrics:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It's easy to change from english to metric

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The secret is fun if you know it

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So let's all convert from english to metric

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Let's do it, and share it, and show it

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Just multiply inches by 2.54 and you will get centimeters

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The feet multiplied by .305 will give you equivalent meters

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Just multiply pounds by .45 and you'll get kilograms it's true

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The gallons by 3.79 will turn into liters for you!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Subtract 32 from degrees Fahrenheit, the result keep it in mind*

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

For you to multiply that with five over nine,

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

and you'll get Celsius just fine

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The yards and the miles are things of the past

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Use meters, and go kilometers

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So out with the english, we're modern at last

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The system of metric is (the system of metric is)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The system of metric is better!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"keep in mind" means until the next line, because this conversion exceptionally needs two operations and is spread over two lines.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Cartoon short. Very effective. Now that I remember the lyrics I can't get that blasted song out of me head now

OT: Anyone has access to a very clear MP3 copy of the Bagong Lipunan (KBL) song? Thanks in advance
