sa akin, same pa rin ang speed. pero mas stable na kahit umuulan. hehehe.
also, nag change ang IP address range assignment kaya pala hindi ako maka-connect remotely sa office.

Strange... PLDT's DSL connections are glacially slow when connecting to sites hosted outside the Asian region.

it is... ~3 minutes to load this page.

when I posted the message above, the page even timed out.

I've used three (3) DSL connections already, since 9 this am... first one (1) was in the eastwood area, the second one was in Proj. 3... and the third (3) one here at home.

Experiencing the same thing. I've done a couple of ping tests and traceroutes to different public IPs.

Nation-wide servers from PLDT seem to respond correctly.
Yahoo, whois.net, apnic.com, and a root DNS server looks effed up.

Google's (72.14.203.103) fine though. Hehehe.

On a related note, the PLDT field engineer came by our home and told me there was an advisory of an current problem with I-Gate.

We're connected thru Bayantel and using speedtest.net, our upload to PLDT and Globe server is very slow (0.08~0.09 mb/s).

after pestering the CA to forward my call to a datanet tech for 36 minutes... I finally succeeded.

the tech told me that a "fault" has been discovered in a submarine cable to China and Taiwan again...

in other words, we have no choice but to wait until this "fault" has been repaired...

"Fault" - most probably a ruptured or cut optical cable

Bayantel user here. Same problem din. Pati sa globe may problem. Found out na may problem na naman sa submarine cable tulad ng 2006 Taiwan quake, this time its because of Typhoon Morakot.

My destiny connection (which relies on Globe) is still very slow. I'm using a proxy in Europe to surf.

Ok, at least that explains the Internet slowness I've been experiencing since starting around late last night.

Downloading updates from Microsoft is very slow (normally very fast for me -- around 200-220kb/sec downloads, right now, it keeps on stalling)

I tried checking www.speedtest.net -- the page fails to completely load (tried maybe a dozen times -- from late last night till now). I did get it to load once and it shows I have a normal connection rate (ie. from my PC to PLDT). However, Internet browsing is still slow for many sites.

Any news on where this Internet cable fault lies?

mecha50 already posted the reason... You guys don't back read, do you?

segments 1 and 7 of APCN 2
multiple cable breaks have been also detected along the EAC and SMW 3 subsea cable networks

all in the China-Taiwan region... and caused by Typhoon Morakot (Typhoon Kiko)

Thanks, calvin... Sorry, was trying to minimize clicking & opening other sites since browsing is so slow... ;-)
