May nabago ba sa myDSL ninyo?
« on: April 30, 2008, 07:34:14 AM »
Just noticed significant speed reduction these past few days.   I'm being throttled to a max of 100KBps.  I'm on the 3mbps plan.

Checked my router and found out that I am now being assigned IPs in the 58.69.xx.xx  range, instead of the usual 210-211.xxx.xxx.xxx before.

Anybody else experiencing the same issues?  Bad trip naman na PLDT yan.

my download/upload speeds haven't changed but my latency has gone bad...

I used to have ping times of less than 100ms to Singapore servers and an average of 300ms to US servers... lately, ping times to Singapore servers have gone up to 200 - 250 ms and more than 400ms to US servers.

so it's not an isolated case...

before I left for china (last april 4), I was getting 400KB/second on a private tracker... but when I got back (April 30), I was getting at most 100KB/second...

After calling 172 to report my "slowdown" last week, a PLDT technician just called me again to check if my connection is ok again.  I told him that it was running but I wasn't getting the same bandwidth I was getting before I left for abroad last April 4.

He then told me that according to something, I'm really supposed to get 1 mbps only and that it is already fast.  He then mentioned a lot of terms such as NGN, etc.  Gusto ko nga sabihin kaagad na wag nya akong bolahin kasi hindi ako tanga na tulad ng ibang subscribers.

He then proceeded to show me a document stating that I'm on the myDSL professional but with only 1 mbps.  If this is the case, i will just have to terminate my connection and check if myDestiny would give me a better connection for 1/3 the cost

I doubt Destiny will get you 400KB/sec.  Ours maxes out at around 150KB/sec on torrents.

I'll be having destiny cable internet connected on wednesday.  Hopefully all will go well.  I have also asked a friend who works in pldt to expedite my case to the area manager.  If I don't get back my original bandwidth, I'll have my account terminated.  If destiny sucks in my area, balik nalang ako sa 999 package ng PLDT...

Initially on plan 1995 and currently enjoying the most of it at ~1.8 Mbps.  We have already downgraded our account to plan 990 and will investigate their new advertised plan of theirs.

Torrents are usually at 100 KB/s. Only updates from Ubuntu servers are enjoying the 2mbps throughput. That's why we have decided that '384' kbps should be enough for most net activites. We rarely view video streaming sites anyway in our household. Although downloading those linux dependencies and updates in a snap would be missed.
