on my way to the office today, nakakapanibago. Calamba to Cabuyao trip was very smooth, not much traffic, and, it felt unusually bright. Trees that stood ground were left with few leaves, and uprooted trees inside science park 1 still blocking most parts of the road, leaving zigzagging paths to my destination.  partial operations pa rin plant namin, still running on generator and cannot support 100% load.  Down din internet connection namin (akala ko nga makakapag-internet na ako). currently connected using my phone via 3G. it's a good thing up pa rin smart 3g sa area dito.

New storm headed for RP

A NEW tropical storm is headed toward the Philippines, Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro said Friday.

"There is an approaching tropical cyclone that is being estimated to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday and to make a landfall by the middle of next week," Alabastro said after a meeting of the National Disaster Coordinating Council, a day after Typhoon Milenyo (international codename: Xangsane) lashed Metro Manila and Luzon.

Alabastro said the path of the approaching storm also appears headed for Luzon.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the government is prepared for another storm and has enough standby resources to deal with the situation

buti may kuryente na kayo...

wala pa dito sa amin... :-(

no electricity since yesterday morning.
landlines dead since yesterday before noon.
mahina na rin tubig kasi need water pump for water tank (which needs electricity)
low-batt (actually no batt) yung cellphones, just naki-recharge now.

(naki-gamit lang ng Internet now sa bahay ng kapatid ko now...)

This 'Milenyo' is one of the most furious (yet shortest) typhoon to directly hit our home that I've experienced... it smashed broke 2 of our window panes (which we've already tied with rope twine).  Sa tabing sari-sari store, it uprooted 2 trees (including the roots which were rooted in cement bangketa -- the cemented curb broke off) and the 2 trees are now lying/'supported' on the electric/phone/whatever cables... so I suppose it'll take quite some time before power/communication will be restored to our place (malapit pala kami sa SM San Lazaro).

Hmmm. so there's a new typhoon coming up? Meralco and PLDT won't be able to complete their restoration works...

Tell me about it. I was so bored, took a walk and saw that the commercial complex just outside our place already had power so I rented a PC at the cafe and found out that there's power in our office. After I found out, I immediately took off and headed to the office.

We have not really encountered "Yoling"-type tyhpoons that came to us in the 1970's which packed 180-200 kph winds.

I hope that there'll be better billboard regulations after this. These things are dangerous, specially the ones with aluminum/steel sheets. If they fly off and hit you at 160kph, you're minced!

i think we should be more prepared than ever. every time there's a storm or typhoon, we downplay the dangers and hazards.

it really helps if everyone takes part and take the initiative. i just didn't like Pres. Arroyo was growing impatient because of no electricity. what gives. at least we can restore that in a few days, compare that to other areas that were badly affected. we all share the burden and inconvience.
