12v rail can't detect w/ hardware monitors?
« on: April 25, 2004, 02:11:05 pm »
I'd just recieve a new motherboard that send to me by ABIT due to RMA. Im wondering, when I open the windbond hardware monitoring its beeping like hell! I've seen the 12v+ has dropped to 9volts?? The PSU Im using is not even a month old and Ive tried it in my other rig and it works fine. I also tried installing the Motherboard Monitor 5 and Ive seen the 12v as 0...The rest works fine except for the 12volts rail...

Does anyone encountered this? i appreciate your help guys.

have you used a multi-tester to confirm if your 12V rail is running at 9v?

it would be easier if you post what your specs are(the whole caboodle, including your PSU)

Here's my specs:

Pentum 2.4C Vantec Aeroflow

ABIT IS7

Maxtor sata 80g

DVD Writter NEC 2500A

CD Writter LG

Sony Floopy Drive

Powercolor 9600 Pro Bravo

5 Fans, 1 Cold Cathode

Thermaltake 480watts

Aerogate II

I don't have a multi-tester but the PSU works fine...I've tried it to the other rig na-de-detect naman yng 12volts rail... I've tried to install and un-install cycles of Windbond hardware monitor and Motherboard Monitor 5 'coz I thought its just the software issue but it didnt help...

are you using the latest bios?

if you have no problems on your rig other than the 12v monitoring, just disable the 12v monitor. i've experienced a similar thing on my 3.3v rail but on a different board.

you can also have your PSU checked just in case, there's a psu thread in PPC, search for it na lang

Yes, the bios is updated. No problem other than the 12v monitoring...Is this a motherboard problem? If it is, then RMA is on it's way...

I got my repaired HEC 500W from Rsun yesterday and I noticed that OCCT 3.1.0 detects my 12V as 6.8V only.  I don't notice anything wrong with my PC except for that 6.8V reading.

I'm now on Windows7 x64 and I was wondering if it's a compatibility issue between OCCT and the OS.  I'm using the official J&W BIOS for my Emaxx mobo (see my sig for PC specs) and I am quite sure that OCCT used to read 11.xx back when I was using WindowsXP 32-bit.  I tried to see what the BIOS reading was but the BIOS doesn't seem to have any h/w monitoring for 12V.

Thing is, when I installed Windows7 (and before I took my HEC in for warranty), I never bothered to install any H/W monitoring tools so I'm not sure if the 6.8V reading was because of the new OS or if it's because of a shabby repair job on my PSU.

I'll check the voltages with a meter later.  Hindi ko lang nagawa kasi late night ko na kinabit yung PSU.

BTW, my question is: is it hardware or an OCCT + Win7 problem?

I suspect that's a software problem. There's no way your computer would even post, let alone boot if your 12V rail was really putting out just 6.8V.

Ditto. If you have a multimeter you can try to confirm.

I got 12.xx volts from one the molex connectors using a multitester.  Is there a possibility that the voltage reading from the molex connector is different from the one in the ATX (20+4) pin connector?  HEC Raptor R500 has dual 12V rails.
