If the cracker manages to access the Administrator account or any account that's a member of the Administrators group, he/she pretty much owns the system and can do whatever he/she wants with it.

depends on your configuration,  but in general losing data and privacy, and sometimes your PC becomes a launching pad for hacking other computers.

applications can go crazy when being hacked some can execute codes that are very dangerous, some can open backdoors for further hacking.

Through browser vulnerabilities. Especially ActiveX  pages. Although Java pages are not 100% secure, but any day Ill choose java over activeX technology when being used in pages.

pages can be malicous, they can find vulnerabilities in the browser and eat their way through your  the security of your system.

Avoid using your windows game server also as your internet proxy server because it has no protection against attack from the internet. Use an external router instead.

If your windows password cache is read, all cached passwords can then be stolen to gain access to your shared drives and directories. If they get your DSL account number, I wonder if it can be used to gain DSL access?

this incident happened to me several months ago while re-installing WinXP Pro:

During re-installation, i forgot to turn off my dsl modem. After completion of installation and during the first boot-up, imagine my surprise when i saw that there is another password protected user in my system besides mine! I immediately deleted all partitions and re-started again, making sure the lan cable is disconnected from my lan card....
