someone probed your system, tinignan kung anong services ang tumatakbo. pwede rin ang remote os identification

naah, portscans are usually for probing vulnerabilities.

you don't need to probe all the ports to do an OS identification. sending a SYN packet and waiting for the REQ is enough.

yes, you dont have to scan 1:65535 to see kung anong OS ang gamit.  tcp/ip fingerprinting ang ginagamit para malaman yung OS na gamit mo.

i dont think you can probe for vulnerabilies just be checking of apache or some ftpd is running on the remote

as an alternative to zone alarm, you can run your internet connection through a router and only give access to specific ports/ranges.

port scan could also be finding specific application (i.e. ICQ, mIRC) running on your computer

any application that would connect using TCP/IP will open any free port from the local computer.

But closing yourself to TCP/UDP packets would not allow you to create direct connections.

yup that's why we only have to filter the port flow both incomming and outgoing and select only those program that would be allowed to access the internet and other connections..... FIREWALL FILTERINg

I just installed Zone Alarm. Messages like these popped up at different times "The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIOS Name) from...". Sinasadya ba to nung mga taong gustong mag-access sa computer ko?

di naman porke lumabas sa zone alarm ay sinasadya yun. It was outgoing & incoming. If your very paranoid about that why dont you close all ports & open only the ports that you need to use.
