Thanks all for the inputs. Just read about subaru’s promo this Q4 and now we’re considering the XV as well as it’s now in our budget range (~1.3M). We checked out the CX3 and back seat space and ground clearance were smaller compared to our other choices which is why it got removed from our list. As it stands now, top choice is the XV, followed by HRV then the Tucson.

Our Baic M20 is almost 3 years old, so far no major damage, just changed the battery last month & wipers. Now they have a few distro around the country, latest i think is the M50 but at the current price, others might consider the eXpander

Pricing is aggreesive, looks Mazda-ish though. I wonder why Mazda is quiet about this.

I actually saw the coolray up close. Interior and exterior looks very euro and loaded with tech. Engine is a 3-cylinder turbo with DCT. Agent said they were using “wet” DCT which should fair better with PH traffic conditions. Admittedly/Unfortunately, I’m still not comfortable in buying China branded cars.

^it's their new design philosophy - "Dynamic Shield". I believe it started with the Xpander -> Strada -> Montero, and now with the mirage. it's a thing now with car manufacturers; Nissan with their "V-motion", Hyundai with their "fluidic sculpture", mazda with their kodo, etc.

Dynamic shield started with Outlander and ASX in 2016. Quite understated design back then. The newer Dynamic Shield design cues with the headlights in the bumper started with the Xpander. Our Hyundai Palisade also has the headlights in the bumper.

front shocks are due for replacement:
KYB Excel-G or OEM (ford)?
price difference is 3-4k for the pair (total, not per piece)
Ford Focus TDCi

any thoughts?

Mitsubishi Expander recall

https://www.carguide.ph/2019/12/mitsubishi-philippines-announces-recall.html

That recall actually sounds good to me. Fuel pump is external to the engine and an easy fix. It's a big difference to having a design flaw or a weak part in a critical engine component.

"KYB Excel-G or OEM (ford)?"

KYB if KYB is the more expensive one.... Japanese quality.

the OE part is more expensive.  the seller in FB is quoting me 6500/piece for the OE ford shock absorber while the KYB Excel-G in lazada is around 4800/piece.

ah, I'd look for authorized parts sellers first and, lazada, well, di ka sigurado kung totoo nga binebenta nitong mga ito... pede magtanong sa massive parts sales, ito authorized distributor ng KYB dito... I'd ask them first.... As for ford parts, well, ford yan... buti nga sana kung OEM ng ford ay KYB din, papaano kung korean brand pala OEM nila? Dun na lang ako sa KYB.

google may number ng massive parts inc.

Actually, those branded "origs" are more than likely just KYBs, Parauts, Tokicos, etc. re-branded by the car manufacturer.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably go KYB on this one.
