Title: Investments?
Post by: dean on November 02, 2017, 11:43:33 AM
usually referring to the financial stuff, but other things classified under that are also welcome.

what are your thoughts?  what should i/we invest in these days?

i'm currently playing it safe by having some small amounts in different financial/insurance companies but i'm also looking at the possibility of adding another investment in the near future.  bitcoin seems to be the buzz nowadays...

How are the interest rates for those? Is it enough to beat the inflation?
Title: Re: Investments?
Post by: wheelee on November 02, 2017, 04:32:39 PM
UITF not sure
but for the BPI one I think interest rate is linked with inflation plus a little more, about 3~10%
i think it's the same after it's maturity.

Ugh the time to buy bitcoin was two months ago when China did a crackdown on their exchanges and it fell to around $2500. Right now it's higher than ever at $7000.

so far, so good.

i have an investment-linked insurance policy and another that's purely investment and both easily beat the inflation rate.

our joint money has been invested in equities for 5 years (mutual fund and VUL). we are pretty satisfied with the return (around 20% and 40% respectively). since we are young and do not intend on pulling these out soon we can afford the risk.

we have also opened a mutual fund in my son's name (in trust, i am the caretaker until he turns 18) and will open another for our daughter once the stock market goes down a bit. all invested in equities too. in a year the return has been around 8%.

^ AFAIK for Nvidia the best mining card is the 1070. Something about GDDR5X not playing well with the workload means the 1080 is barely any faster than the 1070, likewise the 1080ti is faster, but not as efficient. Purely considering mining output Titan V wins but ROI kinda kills it.

With BTC fluctuating between 13 and 17 it seems like you can just trade it like you would a normal stock and gain 25% every few weeks.

just don't forget that you may have to pay high transaction fees so you can buy/sell quickly. transaction fees were reaching $50 at its peak, i've no idea how much they range now.

since FREE naman electric ko dito just leave the PC to mine 100% 24-7

^yeah, but realize it's only a paper loss - you're not losing money unless you take it out. we started nung 2012 and thankfully up pa kami. actually, parang maganda pumasok ngayon sa stock market kasi medyo mura, pero who knows when this slump will end?

Not sure paano diyan pero sa FarmOn, in case of crop failure, your investment is simply rolled over to the next season.

a friend of mine who joined march yata yun got a free S9 & earned around 1.7mil dahil sa mga direct sales nya, she's really aggressive sa pag promote & invite that the 5000 messenger limit was reached & she had to make another Group for her invites - which is not really necessary but helps a lot.

tinanong korin yan, paano kung worst case scenario napeste sila, naka insured daw sila.

@wheelee, we still have traditional insurance plans which are purely protection, but the trend now is on Variable Unit Linked Products (VUL), in essence it's a combination of insurance and investment. while you have the protection benefits (death, accident, critical illness etc) part of your premium is also invested and grows, which you can use later on to fund your policy, or to withdraw for your own expenses.

a disadvantage of traditional plans are the premiums increase yearly, and it is more expensive to pay if not annual (at least for Pru Life UK's products). also it is essentially money wasted if you don't die/get critical illness etc (parang car insurance). VUL policies have constant premiums, so you are "locking in" your premium even when you get older.

that's not to say traditional insurance has no place in today's world, in fact a client of mine got one last month. i talk to people and analyze their needs, wants, investment and risk profiles, then recommend a product. pwedeng VUL ang fit sayo, pwedeng traditional.

yung sa BPI that's probably BPI-Philam (i have one also which i got when i was a fresh grad). it is most probably an endowment product, which has a shorter maturity period with a payout at the end.

maraming uses ang insurance products which i hope i can educate people with. sadly it is misunderstood and worse, other people generalize too much and shoot them down without considering the other (not necessarily financial) benefits.

sabi nga ng iba "Insurance is good to have But Hoping to never use it." - traditional insurance plans.

so sa Pru Life meron ding VUL or ala BPI-Philam plans?

Dude, double your money schemes run by network marketers are often likely more to be ponzi schemes.
Title: Re: Investments?
Post by: splerdu on October 25, 2019, 10:44:28 PM
There was a good article on that, saying that if they can guarantee money after 90 days then they have the absolute best people at animal husbandry and every other grower or breeder would have just gone out of business.

The fixed return also assumes that they must have buyers lined up and have no competition from other breeders, which if they did and they were so good at raising animals then they could have just gotten a loan from a bank or financing company and kept all the profits for themselves.

Exacly.  What are the economic incentives to share a foolproof double your money back business secret to more participants?  It is counter to the premise of profit maximization.

Essentially in one year one can get 1600% return on investments.  1M becomes 16M after 12 months.  Greed begets stupidity.
