Title: HD failing?
Post by: goma on June 28, 2015, 10:10:25 PM
I got a brand new workstation last year. It two western digital 2TB HDs. Lately I've been getting warning from the OS (win7) that one of the drives, which is empty, is about to fail.

Two questions:

Whats the typical warrantee of drives like this?
I do notice that the drive sometimes does appear among the other drives. Could this be symptom of problems?

Typically 1 year with the store. If I'm not mistaken the manufacturer warranty is like 3 years?

Anyway if you have the serial number you can check:

you should start backing up the data from that failing drive. if the drive disappears from time to time it may be a sign that its failing or some cables might be loose.

if you have access to the eventvwr module, you can see a lot of info there regarding the failing drive among other things.
