This happened to the Glaser mouse I also bought 3 weeks ago. The buttons are not designed for gaming. Got it serviced and will get it back in 3 weeks. To my disappointment, I got myself a A4Tech X6-20D instead.

Although I have a CDR-king optical mouse that I've been using for more than two years now. I also got a USB wi-fi adapter that I've been using for 3 mos. already. Chipset is Realtek and it's compatible with NetGear WGR614.

My son bought an earphone at their SM bicutan site last December... after two weeks lang sira na kaagad, wala nang sound yung isang side.  Sabi ko sa kanya parang nagtapon lang sya ng pera e ang usapan namin Sony na earphone ang bibilhin nya, nagtipid kasi.

This I must agree.

CD-R KING USB FLASH DRIVE 2 GB-2.0 (2.0 may may mena USB 2.0).  My son's Kingston 2 gb usb drive transfers large files faster.  If for example 1 minute for the Kingston, it's about 2 minutes (more or less for the CD-R KING usb drive.

For optical media, I buy a few, 2-5 pieces, before buying a hundred or two.

I was surpriced that there were times that the cheapest unbranded perform better than some more expensive 'branded' ones'.

The Canon DSLR batteries & the AA's I got were really great value fro money.

The 3 earphones I got for my daughter died quite quickly though.

the tdk earphones are fine. their mice break down as fast as the a4techs. CDs are ok. I bought earphones that look like in-ear earphones. Never used them again after the first night. Very bad audio quality. Their webcams are better than all the low-end logitechs i've tried. Ok pa yung drivers, unlike logitech, which tries to steal your desktop, icons, and system tray. BT dongle nila iisa lang ang bluetooth address haha. Thumb drives are ok. HD enclosures are ok. Memory cards are ok, just make sure to test them in the store.

I bought this today...

Actually surprised by the robustness of the design, although it doesn't feel firm and "challenging" when gripped (as opposed to my old Logitech Extreme 3D PRO). But the pots are performing flawlessly. I expect them to wear out in about 2 months, but that's ok considering the price, and I think by that time I will try out their other more expensive sticks.

The reasonw why it made sense to me, to buy this cheap one is, my old Logitech has pot wear issues in the X-axis na...so, via the magic of USB, I can plug both sticks, then assign the CD-R King stick as my primary flight controller, with my old Logitech acting now as throttle and rudder...resulting in a 20-button (not counting hat control on my left hand) cheap HOTAS configuration! So yeah I think, even though I was doubtful about it, now I'm beginning to love this CD-R King cheapo stick.

Will post some flight videos while using this dual-joystick setup/config. Heck I want to buy another one and build myself DIY rudder pedals! Thank you, USB 2.0 PORT!!!

:)

It's called the CDR-KING KC8302 USB Flight Joystick, and it sells for PHP 480-490.00 It feels EXACTLY like Popoy's old DEXXA (remember that one?) stick. It doesn't have a hatswitch, and no rudder, pero merong throttle.

There are two other ones (those are more expensive at around PHP 680-690.00...pero forcefeedback, plus hat and twist throttles) being made by CDR-KING, pero I'll try to buy them later if ok ang performance ng pots nito for over 2 months.

Oh it works definitely well! :) Check out my screenshots at "What PC only games are you playing now?"...it was a b*tch to land that strange VTOL airplane, but my dual-joystick setup made it a synch. Will post more photos and videos soon (ooooh you're gonna love my "Veritech Fighter over Honolulu" videos...I took them while using this setup)...awesome feeling of absolute control over my aircraft...

yesterday I bought a Kingston 2GB microSD card (with SD adapter) for Php350 (yes, it's 350).  I went through memory verification at Kingston's website and here's what I got:

Quote
Serial Number: xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx
License Key: xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx
Email Address: xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx
The flash memory product you inquired was already registered by another user, so it may not be authentic Kingston memory product.  We suggest that you double check the information on the product label. (Refer to the Kingston Verification website for details).

So I guess (some of) their branded memory cards are not genuine after all.  I wouldn't be surprised if all their Kingston memory products all have the same product bar code sticker.

I'm still keeping it though cause it works and I'm only using it on my phone to store mp3s.

bought a drawing tablet and have been using it as a mouse replacement for over two weeks.  pretty decent,  looks like the genius slim tablet and can even use its drivers.  works plug and play in vista but you need to install the drivers if you want pressure sensitivity.

drawing feel is decent and was improved by taping a 2.0mm acrylic sheet on top.  first tablet i ever used (save for the ones they use in lto to capture signatures), wouldn't know how it compares to a wacom tablet.

plug and play in ubuntu, too, but loses calibration too often.  can easily be reset by tapping the sensor edges but still very annoying.  the Wizardpen driver for uclogic fixes this, but i can't get pressure sensitivity to work on gimp and inkscape.

watch out for lemons, though.  a cousin bought the same thing and the package was missing the supposedly included spare pen nibs and had a funky spot in the tablet where the pointer goes haywire.

cdr-king = you usually get what you paid for hehehe
More expensive brands = You get the 1 year warranty

All those items work and breaks as expected from everyday abuse.  Before, I buy a4tech keyboards, headsets, mouse.  They break almost as fast as the cdr-king products pero pag sinoli mo para sa warranty would take you 1 week - 2 months for the replacement pag lumagpas na sa kanilang replacement period.  So you still need to buy one if you need it asap.

Personal Stuff that I bought from Cdr-king:

Mini Portable Battery For Cell Phone - ( I also use this to charge my psp, power my usb lamp, and fan when i cant use a conventional light in the shop or in the road.  Its really helpful when there is a brownout ^_^
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/USB%20Devices/urlorange00.gif)
USB reflector lamp
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Others/u_fan.gif)

USB Fan (rotating)
PQI i-sick 2gb Flashdrive
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Flash%20Disks/U35000.gif)
pqi cool drive 4gb version - very slow write speed of large files bee using it for more than a year.
Mini Wireless Optical Mouse (ASDL02) Black
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Bluetooth/tm104705.gif)
Tiny Bluetooth Dongle (TM-1057)
Bluetooth USB Dongle - has problems already after more than a year of use
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Others/kbskingreen00.gif)
Keyboard skin - its a quick fix for those abused fading keyboard letters hehe.  Cheaper than buying a new keyboard and less work than writing athe letters using a white marker again and again ^_^
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Mouse%20Pads/beadsblack00.gif)
bead wrist rest - (pero mas gusto ko ata ung mouse pad nila na may breast wrist rest hehe
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Others/spiral01.gif)
Spiral wrapping band with clip
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Others/tg300.gif)
Tie Gun (TG-3) -  not sure why i bought this lol -guess its good for keeping those rowdy kids playing at my shop at bay:D
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Gaming%20Accessories/steering_wheel.gif)
wheels!

Gonna buy this next
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Others/powerbar00.gif)
Power Bar
mobile charger ulet :D
drawing tablet din! thanks for the review sephiroth tagal na ako nangangating bumili nyan kaso natatakot lang akohehe. Di mo pede compare sa waccom yan kasi pinakamura nila ay x3 ang presyo nyan hehe

final words: Ive never encountered a product that i bought for personal use to die quickly or did not perform as expected. I guess i'm just lucky.

suggestion ko lang, buy things that you think would be just a quick fix for something that you had and if you are on a budget but would like to try out new toys. kumbaga ay "starter kit" for items na 2x-3x ang price difference nang branded.

I also noticed an 800 peso 8 gb thumbdrive in their Podium branch.

so far I havent had any bad experiences with cdr king aside from a stack of cd's i bought around 8 years ago. Technically all the memory cards, usb drives ive bought worked well.

The thing is that I never thought of having to return something there. I always think that whatever i buy there has no warranty since I wouldnt even waste my time trying to RMA a memory card. Its just too much of a hassle.

That PS2 gamepad I bought is pretty crappy.  Only lasted about 2 weeks until the buttons felt loose.  Medyo kelangan pa ng slightly more effort to press a button unlike orig ones na kahit slight tap lang magrerespond agad.  Sakit sa daliri nung dpad. I guess this is fine for slow-paced games like RPGs, but a huge NONO for action games like DMC.

Anyways, bought an HDD cooler from CDR King worth P150.  So far so good.  From 52C IDLE,  mine dropped to 33C idle. :D

Nagulat rin ako sa tablet, P1500, but I think I'd rather save for a Graphire.

USB-Serial Adapter = P 100.00
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Cable%20Accessories/urs23201.gif)

detected but need drivers for Vista 64-bit.. hope they can provide one

USB-PS2 Adapter = P 100.00
(http://www.cdrking.com/images/products/Gaming%20Accessories/psptousb01.gif)

works great on both Vista 32 & 64-bit & the best thing is its natively compatible w/ any Vista OS and pre-configured properly thru Vista's game controller section in control panel.. very responsive too on DMC4

too bad the dualshock function isn't running but for a hundred bucks, its already a steal if you got a PS2 controller lying around :)

but one thing i love/hate about them is their service & their clerks
Quote from: RE:Rant & Rave Thread
RANT: stupid sales clerk guy from CDR-King SM North Cyberzone, i asked for a USB-to-PS2 Adapter for my cousin, told me there's no stock but i saw it on the display glass.. ok maybe he don't know there's one left so i kept my cool, then i asked again if they got a USB-to-Serial Adapter on stock also, then that fr*ckin' guy told me again there's no stock.. i asked the sales clerk girl besides him if she can check out the stock room if there's anything left and told her discretely that i would really appreciate if she checked it out for herself..

the girl found one and to show my appreciation, gave her a tip..

after paying, i really want to give that moronic son of a b*tch the finger, never even bothered to serve customers or even tried lookin' on what the customer asked..

returned a couple of hours later bec. i forgot to buy blank DVDs for my bro, the same moronic guy that snubbed me earlier asked me what i'm lookin' for.. to get even, i asked the girl besides her that i'll get 500pcs. of blank DVDs..

i really hate moronic sales people that's so lazy to check out their items for sale.. parang bentang ayaw mag-benta!

Bought a Kingmax PD07 8gb flash drive for P990. Looks like the real deal. Even the case color for the capacity is consistent with the product spec at the Kingmax website. Several Flash software utility has identified it correctly and the capacity is what it says should be. Read/write speed is average, though.

No problems on the analog and stuff? No lag?

Looks like I'll have to buy an orig PS2 controller. :D

Btw, rumble only works for the X360 controller.  Wish someone would mod the game, got a good feeling MS paid a good amount to get it exclusive to their controller.

i was suprised that it hasn't any problems also w/ the analog sticks, no lags whatsoever also.. tried many combos in terms of simultaneous button presses and quick shifting of the analog sticks on DMC4 using a PS2 controller and the adapter and so far it hasn't failed me..

to bad the vibration doesn't work or else i'll give it 10/10 on my best-buy list

@X3ME15,

One last question.  Is the controller "mapped" to the keyboard?  Or does it really act like a controller, so that you get 360 degree analog and can hold multiple buttons at the same time?  Like, try moving with Dante while charging a gun and Roundtrip and jumping around while holding R1. Or moving around Nero while holding R1 + R2 + Square. Would really appreciate input. :D

My beloved CDR-King has so far given me products that exceeded expectation. (being cheap expected mga ilang months lang aandar items nila) But luckily I'm wrong.

Have the Jetart VGA Colling hsf for almost 2 years now on another machine with an AGP card.
I've noticed brand na nila nakalagay di na Jetart.

Purchased hundreds of DVDs na and until now they run well on my DVD players. the P6 and the P10 kind.
A universal TV remote control easy to setup.
A hard to find orange LED 90mm fan for more than 1 year na.
A Mickey Mouse laptop skin for my girl.
A lot of hard to find cable adaptors.
USB Vacuum cleaner, aliw ma'm ko dito.

Lucky lang din siguro. low prices for quality products from my experience.

@X3ME15,

its not mapped to the keyboard so you don't have that keypress limitation that you experience when you press 4 or more keys simultaneously

you can calibrate directly from Control Panel>Game Controllers and see for yourself

UPDATE:

ARGH!! still can't find any Vista 64-bit drivers for the USB-Serial Adapter!!

has anyone tried the 5-port Gigabit ethernet switch (Dexlan and CNET branding) that sells for P280?  any feedback?

mas mura pa kasi kaysa sa 5-port 10/100Mbps switches nila (being sold for P380) eh.

I bought the white one a day after it was listed and its running 24/7 up to now.
I get about 16-20mb/sec sustained transfer rate (file copying)
May passive heatsink cya sa loob as seen from the vents.

Also bought the cnet gigabit pci nic and works ok

I've been searching for the 5-port Gigabit switch (Dexlan or CNET) and all the branches I've tried no longer have it on stock.  Their online stock inquiry confirms that it is indded out of stock.  However, in one of the branches, I did see a CNET Wireless-G router with a tag of P750...  hmn...

i was going to make a topic regarding this.  hahaha!  feeling ko kasi parang may mga products ang cdrking na sila lang ang nagbebenta sa buong pilipinas.  and i thought that the ps2 to usb was one of them...  kakabili ko palang nga ng '2 ps2 to usb' hahaha!  dalawang ps2 controllers pwede mo isaksak.  and also gumagana ang vibration function ko dito sa sf4.  sulit sobra!  hahaha!

880+150 FTW!!!  880 for the ps2 controller at 150 para sa cdrking na cable.  bumili din ako dati nung 2 controllers in 1 usb.  hahaha!  panget talaga.  orig ps2 parin talaga ang panalo.  but in fairness to cdrking, ung quality ng controller tama lang sa price na binebenta nila.  craziest thing about their controllers is that it works on the ps3 hahaha!

i've bought so much stuff from cdr-king and am pretty happy coz they're cheap and most importantly...

they work!

aside from the usual blank dvds, memcards, flash drives, readers, etc... here are some of the more expensive items i've got that i'm absolutely happy w/:

500k pix webcam w/ leds (2 yrs old and going)
LP- 9287 hi-power usb wireless lan  (1 1/2 years on duty)
LP-8186 4-port wireless broadband router (1 year and still alive)
8" digital photo frame (didn't buy though as it was gifted to me last xmas)

BUT, the most indispensable product they have, that i cannot absolutely live w/o is...

y'all might crucify me, but here it is:

the USB vacuum cleaner (p120), lol!

it takes care of all the crap that falls into the crevices of my beloved razer lycosa keyboard!

@ris

about the PS2 to USB cable, is it compatible with PS1 controllers?
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king
Post by: ris on July 24, 2009, 02:09:51 PM
i think yes.  about 95% sure.  since there is not much difference on ps1 and ps2 controllers.  most possible if its ps1 analog.  if ps1 without analog sticks then its a higher risk.

but for 100-150 pesos?!  just buy it and it it doesnt work then buy a ps2 controller for 880!!  hahaha!  meron din nagbebenta sa tpc na second hand controllers for 400.  my 880 controller is bnew.  kayo na bahala kng ano gusto nyo...

modify: just think of it this way, diba ung logitech mga 1000+ benta tapos for pc only?  eh ang 1000 pesos mo ngayon pwede na pang ps2 at pc!

update mo din naman po kami kung gumana... hehehe

Got an LP-8186 wireless router (P1,280) last Sunday.  Much better looking than their old model at pwede pang i-vertical mount.  Great signal strength from 2nd floor to ground floor too.  Currently configured in "Bridge" mode and having no trouble with wired and wireless clients.  I'm still trying to find the optimum configuration for connecting it to my Zyxel P660 (stuck in router mode cause I "lost" the original PLDT firmware, LOL) though.  Gusto ko sanang naka-gateway mode so I can make use of its NAT, DHCP and Firewall capabilities.

I was actually eyeing the CNET worth P750 but it turns out it didn't have any ethernet ports.  Also, wireless AP lang ata yung CNET.

This router's a godsend sa mga naghahanap ng cheapo wireless solution, IMO.

i dont know about the life of their webcams but i suggest you check out their different models.  meron sila mga HD webcams ata.  HD!!!!!  wtf?!  yung logitech ata na sinasabi mo vga lang eh.  sobrang crazy talaga dito sa cdrking!

surprisingly, lagay lang ako ng update regarding their old cdrs that i bought about 5years ago(i think).  WORKING PARIN YUNG KARAMIHAN!!!  i bought the basketball and soccer ones which are the cheaper ones at gumagana parin sila most of the time.  di ako makapaniwala.  since may divx player na ngayon ang mga dvd player tinry ko lang iplay.  kung meron man damage ay very minimal lang.  maganda din pala yung divx ng philips kasi halos lahat ng xvid videos ko na play nya unlike those china ones na mapili sa version ng xvid...

edit:  kung minsan mo lang gagamitin siguro mag cdrking ka nalang.  para hindi mahirap mag upgrade.  imagine paying for the same amount for the webcam 2years from now para sa isang upgraded model.  baka mamaya yung webcam ng cdrking 10mp na tapos logitech naka 8mp lang and still with the higher price tag

regarding webcam pala, may post ako na nabasa nagsasabi working parin daw webcam nya even after 2years...

actually, ang problem yata with their webcams is not how long it lasts but rather the poor image quality (as I read from TPC).  their advertised number of megapixels also seem to be greatly exaggerated.

hmmmn. I still have my 512Mb PQI flash drive, it contains SystemRescueCD and a few small files, my all around utility -- bought last December 2005... one nice thing about this Flashdrive is that it has a physical read-only switch.

EDIT: forgot to mention that this is the *very first* Flash drive that I personally bought, before this one, I'm just using company supplied Flashdrives, I bought this one since I was going to resign at my company (that's why I can still remember the time I bought it)

The rack I mean. But I did watch an HD copy of "Up" a few months ago playing on one of their LCD TVs at one of their stores. It looked rather nice. Don't know how long it would last though.

wow, looking at the processor, it's a MIPS32 architecture with Multimedia Acceleration (although can only handle 480p) -- same processors used on embedded systems like routers, NAS devices, and those portable DVD players --

there's almost the same netbook being sold at TPC, but with an ARM processor (WM8505), but with a much lower price (3.5k), with the same OS (WinCE) -- and there's a lot of resources over the internet on installing GNU/Linux on the WM8505 so this might be a better choice over the CDrKing's /netbook/ if you just wanna play with it.

CDR King buying guide: if you answer yes to any question below: DON'T BUY

If ____ fails, will it kill you?
If ____ fails, will it destroy an expensive piece of equipment?
If ____ fails, will it destroy important, irreplaceable data?
If ____ fails, will it cause you to lose money, or the opportunity to earn money (aside from the money you spent on the thing)?
Does buying 2 of that thing cost more than 1 of a better quality thing from a better brand?
Do they sell the same kind of thing but with a non-CDRKing original brand (encore, kingston, etc)? Buy that instead.

^ This works for me. None of my CDRKing stuff are a YES on any of those. feel free to add more criteria.

Does have electronics? If YES, don't buy. Unless...
- it is an OEM (known manufacturer) => Some OEM products: Jetart, Kingston, Ridata products, etc.
- it has a good local review => ex. 5354/5354U wifi router

This is almost a carbon copy of the rack I bought from Sights and Sounds. Only the center pillar is a bit different. I think the critical comparison will be the thickness of the tempered glass shelves and the sheet steel used for the mounting.

if your batteries are seriously heating up,  it may mean that the internal resistance is high and are close to dying.  are your batteries still fresh?

on the other hand,  high current (rapid) chargers malakas talaga mag painit ng battery,  lalo na yung walang thermal protection.  yung sa akin,  marginal lang yung pag-init ng battery, di nakaka-paso.

Hmm... sounds interesting.

I also experienced something similar with Cyberclean.  After being impressed with the sachet version of Cyberclean, I bought a the bigger sized version (the one sold in Tubs).
After a couple of months, it became "sticky" and left residues in my hands as well as in the keyboard -- the same symptoms you described.  Baka may expiry date siya after opening.

I think these cleaning products are biodegradable so I store my cyberclean sachet in the fridge. I bought this a few months ago and use it about once a month and it still does not leave any sticky residue.

yes, it heats up even with brand new batteries.

even the 2500 mAh batteries that came with it heated up and later on died (wouldn't hold a charge for even a day) after a couple of charges.  I just thought it was a bad batch of batteries since most 2500 mAh NiMHs at the time had problems.

and then last december i bought a couple of cdrking AA NiMH batts.  1 of them "popped" open during the initial charge nung nag-iinit na.

got nostalgic (thanks to the remembering the 80s thread) a couple of days ago so I bought one of their USB gamepads that looks like the original Playstation 1 controller.  Balak kong tapusin lahat ng Megaman for NES and SNES.

So far no problems with the controller.  Medyo stiff pa yung buttons but hey, it's only 100 bucks.

Or if the USB folks adopt the extensions developed by IBM and NEC.
IBM's 'powered USB' can push 144W@24V.

I also remember reading something about powered variant of desktop USB 3.0 being able to push 100W so people can fast-charge USB devices.

That's still not enough to power a typical rice cooker which uses 300W-800W. Anyway, won't the motherboard get fried over too much power circulating on it?

5V at 100W is ~10A.  a 150 mils trace width is still doable on a motherboard,  particularly if the power transistors are close to the usb sockets.

my bad, math fail.  370 mils trace, then.  if you put the transistor right at the usb port,  you're pretty much limited only by the usb cables and the current supply.

USB high power dont use 5V, it's either 12 or 24. Good idea really, because most PSUs dont supply that much current to the 5V rail.

That's still not enough to power a typical rice cooker which uses 300W-800W. Anyway, won't the motherboard get fried over too much power circulating on it?
Japan-style slow-cook rice cooker! And probably with smaller capacity. Cup-size? Hehe
If a regular one can get by on 300W, then 100W should be more than enough for that.

I'm not sure how it's implemented on the motherboard, but maybe there's a PCI power header near the powered USB power port. Makes more sense to do it that way.

edit: The button near the scroll wheel isn't detected by X-mouse button control.  I think it's supposed to be the same as Logitech's application switching button (?).

edit: the DPI changer apparently works although I don't know how to get a reading to check what DPI it's currently set to.

Other mouse software i've tried are Microsoft Intellipoint 8 and Logitech Setpoint.  Neither of which detects the mouse.  Unless I can find the OEM driver for this, I'm sticking to Windows default drivers + XMBC.

Are there still good writable DVDs/CDs in CDR-king?  I mean the archival quality ones.

I remember way back (when they only sold CD-Rs and other CD paraphernalia) they had Yamaha (OEM Taiyo Yuden), genuine Kodak, and genuine Sony media.  Now I can't seem to find any good brands on their catalogue.

Any recommended media that you've tried from CDR-king?  Yung subok na na tumagal ng ilang taon.    Parang nakakaduda na kasi kung tunay o China knock-offs yung mga binebenta nila.

If you guys know of any other stores that sell good DVD +/- Rs please recommend them as well.

Thanks.

it usually depends on the manufacturer...
we've been using 1.7W landlite and 3W Philips LED bulbs to replace our incandescent chandelier bulbs and they're comparable to a 10W and 15W incandescent bulb, respectively.
The only downside for the Landlite LED bulb is that it's slightly directional.

Update:

5W LED bulb from Akari is labelled as having the same brightness as a 65W incandescent bulb.

4W unit we had replaced a 20W fluorescent bulb.  the 9W replaced a 17W globe-type cfl.  hardly any difference in brightness, but the 4W seem to make the room bit brighter than the lamp it replaced.

EDIT:  we have the GES-brand bulbs.  they're pretty much omnidirectional.

I bought one of them 5W LED bulbs at their SM Trinoma branch yesterday, 280php.  Looks to be the same OEM as the GES bulbs I have.  A bit brighter than my 4W, or at least really close.  If this lasts more than one year, I'd actually be pleased.

Powerline ethernet adaptors look EXACTLY like a pair we ordered from teh states a couple of years ago. Looked around google for a bit (search term "85Mbps powerline ethernet") and images returned a bunch of different brands all sporting exactly the same unit. I guess they're made by the same factory in China.

Performance-wise we got 50-60Mbps through those kits, one was upstairs connected to my router. A couple of rooms away downstairs the other unit was connected to a small switch and was providing connectivity to game consoles (360, PS3) a media player and whatever laptop was plugged in at the entertainment room. Good goings while they lasted. Unfortunately a power surge killed off one of the units. Obviously you have to plug these directly into the outlet in order to work, AVRs and UPSs will mess up the eth over power signal.

At Php 680 i'll probably pick up a pair of these to re-build the remains of my once glorious network.

^ as i said the powerline was for my aunt's use so i was not able to test file transfer speed, hi-def streaming and gaming, for the few minutes of use i experienced no connection drops or instability. i probably would buy another set even if i have no use for it atm because stocks are low and it's quite a steal at Php. 680.

feeling ko nga same parts lang din talaga sa loob.  i have bought many things in cdrking and i do not think even one has broke down.  meron akong weighting scale, flash drive, card reader, ps2 controller to usb, etc...  aside from the occasional cdr or dvdr that cannot be read, all other hardware are still working fine.

yung nangyayari lang ngayon sakin ay yung kinston na usb flash drive ko, is being identified as skymedi usb flash drive.  pero kahit na ganun nangyari, i can still transfer files with it.  kaya i do not consider it to be broken.  even my ink for my ciss printer is from cdrking.  naubos na nga ata yung ink at working fine naman yung printer.

i actually bought ink somewhere else cause i found a cheaper place to buy.(yes, hindi si cdrking ang pinaka mura.  actually parang marami nga mas mura ang ink kesa cdrking)

sadly, it seems their line up of optical media is getting neglected.  If I'm to believe CD/DVD ID software, most of their media now are fake or are simply poor for archival purposes.  Gone are the days when you can find Taiyo Yudens in their store.
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king

I think they're just responding to the market. Demand for optical media is shrinking as people are turning to usb flash drives now. No sense for them keeping a big inventory of optical media stocks if turnover is slowing down.

Hmm... my USB Fan runs at 3.1w according to my power meter.

So... 3.1/220 = 0.0140909090909091 amps
0.0140909090909091 amps * 1000 = 14.09090909090909mah

Battery is 5600mAh so it would run the fan for 2 weeks... oookay, someone please check my math.

I think 14.09 mA is way too low for something motorized.

If you can't measure the current draw from the fan I guess it will be safe to assume that your USB fan draws the maximum current that a USB port provides (500mA).  In which case,

5600 mAh / 500 mA = 11.2 hours

I'm not sure if wall chargers (or your power bank for that matter) can exceed 500mA though.

So cellphone chargers don't work on the same principle as other appliances?

So how do you properly get the amps from a device that pulls 3.1 watts plugged in to a 220v wall outlet?

The 1500mA rating is the max load that it can support. If the load you put on it doesn't require the 1500mA di naman nya ito i-pupuwersa. It will just give out what the load requires up to a max of 1500mA. It doesn't even get warm when I use it on my mifi.

Well its gonna get a good test right in a few minutes. I just picked up one on my way to the service center and picked up my Asus transformer. The tablet has 10% charge and the dock is at 0%. I'm gonna find some place quiet and use the battery pack to power it long enough to check the tablet.

One concern I have is that I've run this thing down dozens of times and this is the first time I've seen it hit 0%. And it's apparently been at 0% for an entire month!!! I hope the service centers neglect didn't damage the battery.

I didn't test mine like you did.

It's a CDRKing product so I don't really expect it to live up to the labelled 5600mAH.  I'm thinking that if it levels off a 3000mAH for the next charge cycles then that maybe what it really is capable of. If it degrades a lot more then it's bad.

Yeah, between the 20% inefficiency when converting energy and the fact that it's from cdrking I didn't really expect to get the full 5600mah out of it. But I was hoping for atleast two full charges out of it :(

In my experience, portable chargers usually don't charge as "deep" as wall chargers.  Your phone's battery meter might show 100% but you will most likely notice that it drains quicker than if you reached 100% via wall charger.  It's possible that the 100% you got before was actually just your phone's battery meter giving you a false reading.

Or could it be that you somehow haven't fully charged the power pack the second time around?

Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king
Post by: Hajile on June 04, 2012, 10:26:59 PM
When the power pack is re-charging, it heats up. After several hours, it becomes cold, so i'm assuming that it's got a proper charging circuit and automatically cut itself off when it got full.

And about the 'second time around'. It's actually just one charge. I had a full power pack, ran my phone down until it shut down, and then plugged it into the powerpack until the phone reached 100%. After that, i ran the phone until it turned off again, and then used the power pack on it again, using the remaining charge it had to re-charge the phone. The phone only reached 71% before the power pack turns off (All indicator LEDs and flashlight stopped working)

Since my phone battery capacity is 1,750mah, that would be 1.71x1750 = 2992.5mah.

Even if i add the assumed 20% inneficiency that's still only 3,600mah.

considering the price, 80% efficiency and self-discharge:  it's not bad.
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king
Post by: Hajile on June 05, 2012, 10:38:30 AM
Actually, it's more like 60%. When going from the power outlet through teh AC-DC, to your device, your lose 30%. So you're pulling 130w AC from the wall, to supply 100w DC. For DC-DC, the closest i can tell from searching on google is 20%. To charge a 1,750ma battery you need is 2,100ma. So to charge my phone twice over, i'll need 4,200ma. I went for the 5600mah to give me some headroom. At most i'll only need 3/4ths of the advertised capacity.

It's still a good item, but i'm going to ask them if it's really like this or if i just got a bad unit. There are other identically priced and slimmer units. I got this even tho it's bulky because of the 5600mah.
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king
Post by: Hajile on June 05, 2012, 02:19:02 PM
Okay reading a bit more, looks like I'll need to look at it another way. Charging from a wall wart, 20% is lost while charging the battery.  When dealing with two batteries you lose 20% coming out the first battery and another 20% going into the other. That would fit into the 5600mah limit.

Dammit.

It doesn't really matter anymore. Every PC i've used the USB case on works with ust one connector. Maybe it's for old laptops that can't switch up from 100mah to 500mah?

I recently got hold of a 60GB IDE laptop HDD.  Based on the sticker label, it's rated at 0.7A.  I put it in a 2.5" IDE USB 2.0 enclosure.  I thought it would be necessary to use the other connector of the USB Y-cable but how come an MSI Wind netbook was able to power up the 700-mA laptop hard drive via USB?  Aren't USB ports limited to 500 mA?

On the other hand:  those who can afford to collect vinyls will prefer to buy an audiophile-grade encoder.  As for the cassette converter, it's useful for those who want to digitize voice for dictation machine tapes.  And I would use it for our old Hooked on Phonics cassettes.

Gawd, I feel truly old knowing that I used to play with those dictating machines, both micro and standard cassette size.

Would it be possible to use a browser (ipad/android) to view the camera instead of just using the handheld monitor? Any idea what the ip add of the camera would be?

^^ Don't think so. Looks like it is analog TV sent over digitally encrypted RF. It is not IP based at all. The PAL/NTSC spec is the giveaway.

700ma probably maximum power usage, however, test it when doing more intensive hard disk tasks like reading/writing/seeking -- at idle mode, the hard disk may consume much less power than when it's in activity mode.. try to see if the device can suddenly disconnect whle doing those read/write/seek operations. If it's not, then most likely the 500ma USB port power can supply enough power.

From wikipedia:
Quote
A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and 150 mA in USB 3.0. A device may draw a maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) from a port in USB 2.0; 6 (900 mA) in USB 3.0. There are two types of devices: low-power and high-power. A low-power device draws at most 1 unit load, with minimum operating voltage of 4.4 V in USB 2.0, and 4 V in USB 3.0. A high-power device draws at most the maximum number of unit loads permitted by the standard. Every device functions initially as low-power but the device may request high-power and will get it if the power is available on the providing bus.

Some devices, such as high-speed external disk drives, require more than 500 mA of current and therefore may have power issues if powered from just one USB 2.0 port: erratic function, failure to function, or overloading/damaging the port. Such devices may come with an external power source or a Y-shaped cable that has two USB connectors (one for power+data, the other for power only) to be plugged into a computer. With such a cable, a device can draw power from two USB ports simultaneously.

^ as far as I can tell, the branded products from CDRK are original (Imation, Kingston, Encore, etc)

The reason it's cheap is probably falling flash memory prices, and the fact that these aren't really the high-end parts.

The branded products that CDRKing sell are what most manufacturers call "overstock"...
these are usually the phased out items or items that hardly sell in developed countries because a newer/better model/product is being sold by the same manufacturer.

I once bought a 2GB Kingston microsd from them to upgrade my 1GB on my phone (the highest on the local market then was just 4GB). I was very disappointed with its speed. The 2GB Kingston I bought was only 10-20% as fast as my Sandisk 1GB's. I never bought another memory/storage device from them. For a few pesos more you can already buy a faster and more reliable storage media.

The only storage media that has a great performance that they sell is this, bit the price is waaaay too outdated. I happened to saw one 8GB in SM Manila some time last year and guess how much it cost?  3.6k!

so speed-wise, medyo mabagal? tapos hindi rin tatagal?

Here's what I've tried so far:
- Kingston Data Traveler 2GB and 8GB flash disk (sneakernet, usb installer, etc.)
- a couple of 1GB and 2GB Kingston microSDs (used in various Samsung dumb phones).
- Toshiba 8GB microSDHC Class 4 (used in a SONY Cyber-shot WX70)
- TDK 16 GB Class 4 (used in a Samsung GT-I9070)

I tried going through Kingston registration and it all seems to check out fine.  Haven't bothered to verify the TDK and Toshiba.

I haven't had any issues with any of the above.
No distorted photos or skipping mp3s (like the ones I occasionally get with the "Class A" memorystick M2 on my SE phone).
Speed is fine for the uses cited above.  But then, I'm not one to run benchmarks on every piece of gadget accessory that I buy.

walang power surge.  brownout lang samin ng matagal.  tapos sinaksak ko sa generator yung ups.  gumana pa yung computer nun.  tapos nung nagka kuryente, nag overload warning yung ups then the psu just blew up.  after umusok yung psu ko nag normal yung ups.  parang ginagago ako ng cdrking.  not sure if it could be dust or something was inside that made it happen.  buti nalang siguro na walang nadamay na ibang parts.  na absorb ng psu lahat ng damage siguro.  and also, yung voltage reader ng ups naka indicate 245v ang input.  kahit ngayon sa fsp ko 245v parin.  its just irritating na nasira yung psu at hindi nalang yung ups.  1st time nangyari sakin ito na sumabog eh.  pwede kaya na dahil 245v yung kuryente?  eh dati pa naman ako nag saksak dun ng pc eh.  ewan!  basta post ko lang dito na pumutok psu ko.  and i blame cdrking.  hehehe!  pero kahit ganun, mahal parin kita cdrking kasi yung mga murang products mo na iba okay naman.  iwas nalang siguro sa mga electrical at important parts para di sumakit ulo.  other cdrking products i have are doing well din naman kasi

245V? wow saan location mo?

dito sa Diliman, 235 to 240V ang mataas... ordinarily nasa 230 to 235V lang.

ang AVR ko nagwawala na yan pag umaabot ng 245V... that's why I use a servo motor AVR before the UPS.
sayang yung 2 APC UPS ko of masira ng spike he he he.

binondo po ako.  condominium ako nakatira.  cdrking at fps ang reading 245v.  wala naman warning or whatever.  works normal naman.  ngayon lang din pumutok ang ups ko.  it may be a coincidence pero mahirap talaga maniwala na chamba pag may cdrking na produkto.  walang spike na nangyayari sakin.  constant 245v ang nakasulat, actually ngayon pag basa ko its 243v to be exact but i do not think it would matter sa discussion natin.

bili ka naman ng servo-type AVR...  eto o.  >:D

Maski nga extension cords nila nakakatakot din gamitin.  Manipis ang wires at yung contacts madaling mag-loosen - after several plugging in and out of appliances you'll start to hear crackling/sparking sounds sa mismong outlet.

^Anywhere bro, you just have to look for them yourself, you can start with TPC shops. Cdrk branded flash drive prices are very outdated and their cdrk-brand units are only slightly cheaper than branded ones from other shops. Even their Eneloop batteries are expensive.

Got me one of these (only the orange was available) for 280 bucks when I ran out of juice while in the mall last Sunday.

So far, it's working as intended and doesn't look as tacky as I first thought.  It only has 2 LEDs (not so obvious because it's in 2 pinholes), red while charging and blue when fully charged.  No indicators as to how much charge is left though.

Don't have time yet to check if it's indeed 2800mAh but I was able to charge my 1500mAh Samsung battery from 10% to 100%.

It won't.  You'll need a 3600mAh powerbank at least if you want a full charge for your battery.  Why 3600 and not 3000?  That's for energy transfer efficiency considerations.
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king
Post by: Hajile on April 12, 2013, 06:08:19 PM
Mine's 5,600 mah and it was only able to fully charge my Google Nexus twice. When you move power in and out of a battery quite a bit of it is converted to heat, you lose about 20% during the transfer so you need 120mah to inject 100mah into a battery. Same when you're pulling power out of it. So 20% is lost coming out of one battery and another 20% going into the other.
Title: Re: Love/hate products of our beloved CDR king

The mAh rating of those powerbanks may be the rating of the 3.7v li-ion battery inside it. Since usb is 5v, there is still the conversion factor from 3.7v to 5v, then deduct the resulting capacity the power loss converted to heat. On top of that, generic batteries are overrated, 3000mAh batteries may actually be just 1500-1800mAh. The battery will be the one responsible for the actual performance of the whole unit.

nag research ako dun sa mga sim converter.  ang mahal sobra sa ibang shops!  amp!  umaabot pa ng 250php isa!  ang ganda na nga yung sa cdrking eh!  its just a simple plastic holder damn it!  yung sa cdrking isang set pa!  50php sor 3 types of adapters.  at maganda yung design nila ha!

the first time i used it on my note 2 medyo nagloloko yung sim.  akala ko tuloy may flaw yung adapter ng cdrking(syempre pag cdrking yung product mo talagang yun ang palagi mong sisisihin).  apparently its my firmware thats wrong.  the firmware that came with my phone apparently isnt compatible with the LTE sim of globe and an update to 4.1.2 version fixes everything.

im also now using a 32gb class 6 cdrking memory card for my note 2.  hopefully di masira.  the memory card was just sitting around here so i just made use of it.  ayaw ko din gumastos para sa new memory card eh.  hehe

I bought a 40in lcd tv around 6 months ago for p13880..

Still works fine and hopefully it doesn't die after the 1yr warranty!

Added one of their cannonball speakers and viola...  Insta-home theater!

Between the 2, i think the cannonball speaker was the better buy lol!  This thing can rock the entire room!

@hungree

i got the bigger one:

http://www.cdrking.com/index.php?mod=products&type=view&sid=16270&main=153 (http://www.cdrking.com/index.php?mod=products&type=view&sid=16270&main=153)

it cost p1,180.

the one calvin pointed out is half its size.

this one is quite powerful and blasts the entire room w/o drowning out the mids and highs...  plus it tucks neatly behind my console mounted lcd tv!

a huge step-up from those puny built-in speakers!

Mono lang yan di ba? Or do you just use it as a subwoofer?

yup its a mono 2-channel speaker...  it has a 10" 40w driver and a 1.5" 25w tweeter.

the cylindrical enclosure is quite huge thats why the sound is solid so i guess it can also be used as a subwoofer...

but its more of a wide dynamic range speaker for general use.

it works very well for tv use coz the sound is balanced.  whether music (mtv) or movies, the sound is crisp and clear, but it can also easily handle the booming sounds w/o distortion at high volume (as in gunfights and explosions are powerful but not quite as bass heavy or earth shaking as a dedicated subwoofer).

more than adequate for a medium-sized room (my bedroom is around 30 sqm and i have to keep the volume at the lowest levels).

in terms of build quality, it seems very well-built and sturdy(heavy too), and not a cheap-ass-looking speaker like most of the other cdrking speaker sets. the speaker enclosure seems to be made out of wood particle-board (so it could be rounded i guess), while the outer lining of the enclosure is a carpet/velour-like fabric material.

to give u an idea of the size of the cylinder, its about 2.5 to 3 large infant formula cans stacked.

Got this one today for Php 990.  Been wanting to buy one eversince my desktop's USB ports stopped being able to power up external HDDs.  It's a powered hub that taps to the PSU.  Another thing I like is the HD Audio front panel since my casing doesn't have any front panel audio input jacks.

Quick impressions:

I'm using on it a pair of Coloud in-ear phones (P999 on select SM Cyberzone shops), not exactly pure audiophile quality but sufficient for my needs. While listening to ALAC-encoded Pearls (sung by Ilaria Graziano, off the Cowboy Bebop Tank! THE! BEST! album), I hear no signs of clipping during playback, and it's generally clear on all instruments.

You may fiddle with EQ based on your preferences (though I like to set it to Flat myself), but so far it's a solid piece of gear. Baka kumuha pa ako ng isa for office listening naman :)

Probably not.

The first one (which I used outdoors) I think failed because it attracted a lot of tiny flying insects. A lot of it actually died inside the glass cover. I cleaned it up first before bringing it to Cdrking.

The second one flashed for a brief moment when I flipped the light switch then went kaput.

^^^I am using my old Xperia SP. This phone is quite heavy because of the aluminium frame. I like it GPS locks quite quickly. The holder that I bought has strong suction. I purposely left it on the windshield under the sun to see if the rubber softens but it didn't. There is a lever to pull the suction cup. But it does not easily release the suction if I unlock the lever.

Added Mighty bond instant glue to the back frame because it easily separates from the stem.

I'm using the same mount... you need to push down on the cradle until you hear a click. I also thought it was loose because of poor build, turns out it was just not in the "locked" position.

^I've seen that discussed in other forums as it can be used as a dashcam. Comment is that it's a knockoff of the SJ4000 which is in turn a clone of the gopro. The CDRKing version uses the cheaper sunplus chipset versus the novatek on the SJ4000. Better to pay a bit more and get the SJ4000 than buy this one.

BTW here's a comparison of the SJ4000 vs GoPro: http://youtu.be/EASnXTyRYE8 (http://youtu.be/EASnXTyRYE8)

Lazada & Shopee and other online stores appeared making shopping for cheap gadgets easy. Then there's the pseudo-Japanese/Korean stores selling various cheap abubots. And lastly, internet and smartphones for the masses and free wifi hotspots appeared (yes its still slow compared to our neighbors in the region). Before, if you needed a file or wanted to share one, you had to burn it to a CD or copy to a flashdrive. Now its just dropping via BT, P2P or emails.

CDR king during their heyday, usually have very masungit na saleslady- major complain of most of my acquaintancve.

CDR king get low quality class C items from china and stamp their brand, so cdr king products is synonymous to low quality.

a few years back they have 100 plus retail shops, which attracted some major brands that wants more outlets, but they rejected these branded items and stick with their own low quality brand.

just my 2cents analysis,
