Title: What Is The Best Torrent Client?
Post by: tommy on June 16, 2006, 12:12:53 PM
I use Utorrent low on system resources kasi sha e.  (parang compared to others)  The thing is when its on kahit di naman mashado mataas ang download speed parang kinakain nya lahat ng bandwith padin.  O ganon ba talaga.  Kayo ano ba gamit nyo and feedback.

i'm fine with bitlord, but I use utorrent mostly.  If bandwidth is the problem just set a limit for the torrent you are downloading.

utorrent is the best for me, followed closely by bitcomet. Utorrent is complete, simple, and fast. Bitcomet's features for automation are excellent. Too bad many trackers ban bitcomet.

the only thing for me that's missing from utorrent is the auto-shutdown feature. =)

I'm not much into P2P (I'm not a music junkie...) but I tried uTorrent 1.5 and BitComet 0.66.

The best feature of uTorrent is its small program size and it's efficient and has a lot of features (esp. considering its size).  The disadvantage I found is that its uPnP doesn't seem to work properly with my PLDT DSL provided router -- I need to open ports manually to enable incoming connections (if port is closed, the download speed is usually very slow, unless it's using DHT to download...)

BitComet has lots of features and it's able to open ports automatically with uPnP feature with the DSL router (so I don't need to worry ports being opened all the time).

Of course, regarding the ports being open (ie. system vulnerable to attack by unscrupulous hackers), of course a solution would be to install a firewall... but for the most part I just use WinXP SP2's ICF kasi...

@thedude - you can let your computer shutdown by entering this in the "run this program when the download finishes" textbox in the torrent properties:

shutdown -s -t 30 <-f>

the delay after -t may be shortened, but i usually put 30 just in case I'm doing something else while the download finishes. If it warns me that it will shutdown in 30s, all i have to do is type shutdown -a to abort shutdown and continue my work. the -f parameter may be omitted if your running apps recognize a shutdown command properly. Chikka is a problematic app, you might need -f if you want it closed by force, otherwise, the PC will be stuck at an "end task" dialog, waiting for your input.

you can download legacy builds of utorrent, because certain trackers will only allow up to specific versions of utorrent.

I just switched to qbittorrent

It's okay but i still think utorrent 2.2.1 is still the most whitelisted and lightweight client out there.

transmission <- you can put it on your router (and make it a dedicated torrent machine)

^ I put transmission on my NAS instead, router storage transfer rates don't seem to be very good, last I checked.

Nothing beats the convenience (and power savings) of Transmission in router/NAS plus Remote Transmission client on Android.

automate your torrent downloading, use flexget to listen to tracker RSS feeds and you won't need an android transmission client.

Flexget looks nice but I'm not sure I want automated downloading.

For now, I've set up Google Alerts to notify me of new torrents.

I just use the built-in RSS feed downloaders in utorrent or qbittorrent and they work fine for me.

For years now, I've been using an old windows laptop as a torrent box for pretty decent power savings and ease of use. I'm just waiting for Seagate to release its new 2.5" 5TB drive locally so I can also also use the laptop as a full fledged and upnp/dlna media server.

I've considered setting up a dedicated NAS  but the associated cost always put me off.

Transmission on my VPS, then a cron to check and scp the files over to my local file server. 1-3 tv shows a day lang naman. ever since I got my 15mbps globe dsl plan I just stream using kodi and exodus.

qbittorrent for me.

qbittorrent for me.

The latest version seems to have a bug where torrents can't connect with public trackers. It hasn't been whitelisted by some private trackers too.

I just rolled back to 3.3.7 and everything's back to normal.
