You guys have Globe in your area? I'm on Globe DSL right now and it's been awesome for me. 2mbps plan gives me 200k torrent downloads.

latency within PLDT's network has gone up from the usual ~40ms to ~120ms in some nodes.

kapapasok pa lang sa subd. namin nang globelines.  antayin ko lang  magroon nang linya sa mga poste then I'll inquire.  that 2mbps plans looks nice for the price.

Paano ba magpaputol nang PLDT DSL?

jojitb, I already inquired on downgrading and disconnection.

For downgrading, all you have to do is call them via 172 pero may 500 pesos transaction fee WTF...
For disconnection, all you ahve to do is bring the modem (i guess pati lan wire) and the splitter to their business office (nearest to my place is SM North)

The owner of our DSL line just went to a PLDT branch and told them we want a downgrade. I haven't asked for any of the details yet but I was told that the new plan will just take effect after one week. I assume there will be no need of reconnecting the lines or changing the modem for that particular plan.

@alikishi

the lineman just called up.  our old bandwidth has now been restored.  tama suspetsa ko. we were again moved to a different port, same as what happened a couple of years ago.

accdg to the lineman I was included in the cisco system migration (58.x.x.x) when I should have been retained in the erx (?) (210-212.x.x.x) system.

Ibinalik niya ako sa erx ulit and now I'm at 3mbps again!  So check your IP address, kung nasa 58.x.x.x ka malamang nasa cisco system ka na.  Umiikot pa daw ito sa cebu kaya mabagal.

Nevertheless, I'll be checking out globelines.  Saving 1k for the same speed (2k for 3mbps) is mighty tempting.  pambili din nang unleaded at bigas yun.

good luck on that, guys.

usually for a change in speed they have to provision that speed for you and in case they do change your port then the max speed is really dependent on how far the route your circuit takes from your modem to the dslam/remote terminal. the farther away you are, the lower the max speed.

really sucks that pldt suddenly switches ports or provisioning on you. technically isn't that grounds for suing since they're changing your service without your consent?

Update: after calling up support and ranting a bit , a woman called back and had me test the connection again, no change.

They pretty much said im on the legacy network and cant do much about it ,she said she'll try to transfer me to the NGN network.

Hopefully the situation is like Jojitb's problem, and a port transfer might do the trick.

I'm also on the old legacy network.  Never bothered to change this since 2002.  Still using the old Nokia modem.

The NGN-Legacy reasoning used by CSRs are all bull...

Before the existence of NGN, everyone was using the Legacy networks.
If what they say about the Legacy network (not capable of speeds more than 1mbps) is true, then how were they able to offer corporate DSL plans of 2.5 mbps then?

I for one am still on the legacy network, but I can reach download speeds of 2 mbps on well-seeded torrents.

Update: pldt dude came here this morning and did a inspection of the modem, he said he fixed a problem with a cable (which i almost laughed) , checked the bandwidth and although the upload speed was back up to 512 kbps, download is still about 1100-1300mbps which is still NOT even close 2.2mbps (from what the tech told me), its still struggling to beat 110KB/sec on heavily seeded torrents.

Called again and basically heard the same thing, so i guess thats it, just have to wait if they can really do anything about it.

Probably the only reason why im still keeping this connection is its been very realiable pero sayang parin yung binabayad, kaya ill see if anything happens.
