AVG Antivirus Bug Report Hogging CPU
« on: March 19, 2017, 09:21:26 AM »
any way to fix it? or maybe prevent it from starting? thanks!

dunno if it's been like that ever since but this morning, my PC slowed to a crawl and when i opened task manager i found that AVG (all components it seems) had been hogging CPU till it's 99%. i uninstalled AVG and reinstalled but now bug reporter by itself is hogging CPU.

Get rid of AVG entirely. I've been using Avast for a while now and it works much better.

how so?

i tried installing avast many years ago. i thought it was intrusive and annoying, especially the sound notification that scan has been completed. it's different now?

^ There's a silent mode where it just sits in your system tray and doesn't say anything unless it finds a threat.

I've uninstalled all 3rd party AVS...

I'm just using Win 10's default Defender software.

well, that's good to know. will try avast.

somehow i am still under the impression that Window's built in protection is not enough. is that no longer true these days?

seems like the Big Reporter will just pop up a few minutes after the computer starts up and will stay active for a few more minutes before closing itself. probably not harmful but annoying.

^ well, if you're not at ease with Win 10's Defender... then you should go with the one that outperforms it. Bitdefender Antivirus Plus.

Also with everything having gone behind CGNAT these days, you're not going to get a virus unless you click on a dodgy ad or file attachment.

ah. that's a relief. so that's probably one of the reasons why the number of people asking me for help against viruses has considerably lessened over the years.
