Spotify is writing massive amounts of junk data to drives
« on: November 11, 2016, 11:52:52 AM »
From Ars:

Spotify might be killing your SSD!

Typically, the app wrote from 5 to 10 GB of data in less than an hour on Ars reporters' machines, even when the app was idle. Leaving Spotify running for periods longer than a day resulted in amounts as high as 700 GB.

Hmn... I guess I'll have to uninstall spotify. Any workarounds for this like specifying a different drive for its data?

How about Android and iPhone?

hmmmn. that explains it... I've been using this SSD for more than a year, and my usage was around 2Tb only last time I checked (around July), and now it's currently at 4.5Tb, just killed spotify now...

Uninstalled spotify since I don't use it much anyway. I also disabled sessionstore in the Firefox config page to stop those excessive writes. Problem solved.

Yep, it looks to me there's no way around it. Spotify is getting to be more of a huge piece of junk
