^ Well, it is set 10 years before the original Star Trek...

I hope that is not their excuse for serving the same dish using the same tired recipe. People of the present will quickly tire of watching a remake.

Hehe Star Trek tropes fail to satisfy the tacticians among us

But srsly I think the first two eps were pretty good. The level of tension between crew members is a something we haven't seen since DS9, and the visuals alone make the show worth seeing.

Here's something new.

Try watching "The Orville". It's Seth Mcfarlane's take on a Star Trek series.

In episodes 3 & 4 of  "The Orville", it starts to take a more serious thought provoking twist.

"The Orville" is to ST Discovery as Masterchef Australia is to Masterchef US. If you like the civil competition of Masterchef Au, then probably Orville will suit you. If you like the in your face conflict in Chef Ramsey's Masterchef US, then you will probably like ST Discovery better.

i happen to like both MS Au and US. i think MS Au's contestants are more talented and standards are waaaaaay higher though. but MS US is more entertaining.

Having watched all the Star Trek TV series and movies, I think Discovery is even darker than DS9.

ST Discovery is in the same theme as the movie ST Nemesis. Some scenes like kamekazeing into the enemy"s vessel and trojan bomb trick was also in Nemesis. But it was first used by Kirk on the Wrath of Khan.

I have watched all StarTrek series and movies. The Kardashians were aliens on DS9 before they were reality TV stars.

Watched the latest Wheeler Dealers episode. I was apprehensive about the departure of Ed China and the allegations of dumbing down the technical aspects of the show. But Ant is as good a mechanic and a host as Ed and I hardly noticed the shortening of some technical aspects (they did not show some common jobs and jobs that previous episodes already tackled like changing brake pads and bleeding). Overall still a good show.

ok, so new MacGyver series season 2 is out. i still think it needs to tone down on humor, although there were some really funny moments. Bozer is still an annoyance.

of the CW season premiers last week, i liked Legends of Tomorrow the best. not that i am already a huge fan of the series, but it retained its charm without losing a beat between seasons.

LoT to my mind is the spiritual successor to Stargate SG-1. both feature a diverse team with with interesting interactions between characters while thy explore worlds and save the timeline/universe.
