Wanted: Article Writers
« on: May 29, 2006, 10:53:13 PM »
Yes, you read it right. We're actually hiring. It's part of the restructuring of the PPC Staff.

PinoyPC is currently on the lookout for four (4) regular writers.

Ideally, we'd want our writers to

- have the necessary written English (or even Filipino) skills
- adequately know what they're writing about
- be willing to take constructive criticism from the editors
- meet or exceed the monthly quota of three (3) articles per month for the duration of the agreed upon contract

We're not asking for interested people to quit their day jobs or anything, but meeting the monthly quota is important to us.

An unrestricted number of contributing writers are also welcome. While we will still look for the same level of quality in articles, contributors will not be required to meet a monthly quota. However, they will not receive the same level of compensation as the regular writers.

Please feel free to post questions. But people applying for the writing gig are requested to email me at al@pinoypc.net or Louie at louie@pinoypc.net and attach one or two sample works.

Thank you.

If you're interested, talk to me or Al. We'll need you to write something right away and we'll take it from there.

It can be anything tech related. For example, a guide on how to search google effectively, a comparison of different anti-virus software, how to surf porn safely, etc.

I believe test hardware can also be borrowed from distros, provided you can coordinate their borrowing and return. Unfortunately, as of this time, we can't give the same level of support for software.

Then there's the buyer's guide.

It would also be nice to write about something more local, like events coverage, intelligent commentary, project diaries, trend analyses. That sort of stuff. I'm really hoping to see more articles along these lines.

just a suggestion to the ppc eds:

as pointed out during the last eb, one concern in generating articles for "how to" topics is that each of us have our own way of doing things, like, for example, assembling a PC from scratch.  Why don't we create a column named something like "Here's How I Do It" column. This way the contributor is free to discuss how he does things his own way. Then below the article, comments and suggestions can be made on the article.  The topic can then expand from the comments and suggestions the readers of the article posts. (of course, the eds have the discretion which comments/suggestions to post or edit/censor)

what do you think?

according to the megatrade hall website, there will be a 1st Phil. Wireless & Media Expo in hall 1 and 2 June 2 to June 4.

maybe aspiring writers can start off there. bring a camera along for the event.

that "How-to" is actually the prefix of the article series we used to write a few years ago. it was a time when members actually discussed the articles we put out.

we're hoping to have that back.

sorry, i didn't reply sooner. the email addresses are in my first post. no need for a formal resume on my part. just a few sample works. they don't even need to be reviews. i'll also accept short term papers, technical papers, reports or even creative writings just to see how well you can write.

That's the rule of thumb. We don't really enforce the number of words though we make it a point for every article to be as complete as possible.
